	The Firespike, also known as the Cardinal Guard and Scarlet Flame, is a showy evergreen shrub with sparse, stiff branches that grow upwards to about 1 metre. It has shiny dark green leaves which are oblong in shape. From late summer through winter this plant will produce an abundance of brilliant red tubular flowers.       A native to semi-forested areas in Central America, this plant does well in full sun and in partial shade. It likes moist but well-drained soil. Once established it can tolerate drought conditions. *** Very popular with honey eating birds and butterflies***   *** Your plant will arrive as a young plant, similar to the one pictured below. It will be bare rooted and ready to plant in a container or the ground***       All orders are processed on Monday or Tuesday after payment is received. Your plants will be removed from their planting beds or pots and prepared for shipment bare rooted. The roots will be washed, wrapped in moist paper and protected for shipment.
