BLUE WEDGWOOD UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN HOSPITAL PLATE This is an immaculate Wedgwood Commemorative Plate of the University of Michigan University Hospital. It is 10" in diameter and in absolutely new condition. If you read my descriptions, I don't often label my used items this way but I really don't believe this plate has been used at all. It almost looks like it has been in a display because it doesn't even have the ring of wear most items of this age have on the bottom just from sitting in a china cabinet. Let me try to explain the markings because I have a poor camera. The front of the plate is of course, the picture of the hospital. It is surrounded by grape clusters, leaves, circles with pumpkins and gourds and at the top, the University of Michigan seal all done in the Wedgwood blue on a white background . This is all enclosed by a very delicate thin silver border. The back says "University of Michigan University Hospital". One circle says "of Etruria - Made in England - C Barleston". The other circle says "Engraved by the Wedgwood Studios" with two "nails" and a square inside that circle of words. Then, imprinted in the china itself is an indented imprint that reads, "Wedgwood 9 R 56". I believe that is the date stamp. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.  I would also like to find out what "of Etruria" means. This is really a beautiful plate to add to a collection or for an alum to own.
