Characteristics of Macassar Ebony Wood:
Heartwood has dramatic striped appearance, yellow to reddish brown body with darker brown or black stripes. Sharply demarcated sapwood is pale gold color. Grain is usually straight, but can sometimes be interlocked; fine uniform texture and good natural luster. This wood is rated as very durable and highly desired for the wood’s aesthetic appeal and toughness. Macassar Ebony wood is an excellent choice for carved and turned objects such as smoking pipes, table legs, magic wands, flutes etc.
