A little about Ernst Heinrich Roth workshop ....
Situated in Bubenreuth, Germany, the Roth family has continued to preserve their tradition and craftsmanship as stringed instrument makers for more than 100 years. During this long history, the generations of the Roth family have passed on the famous brand name E.H.Roth, which is highly acclaimed.
You are bidding on a Ernst Heinrich Roth model #68 4/4 size violin made in 1979.
This is new old stock. There is no case or bow. There are some very tiny dings You can see from the pics this violin is right out of its original box
It was set up one time 30 years ago but never owned. I can't say for sure but I'd guess it was used as a sample for a trade show and
soon after it was put back in its original box where it remained for
the next 30 years until I found it a few weeks ago in our warehouse
which I've been slowly liquidating.
This means the strings are also about 30 years old.
A few words about "set up"
"Vital to the sound and playability of the instrument is setup,
which includes adjusting the neck angle if needed, fitting the pegs so
they turn smoothly and hold firmly, dressing the fingerboard to the
proper scooped shape, fitting the soundpost and bridge, adjusting the
tailgut and installing the tailpiece, and stringing up. A removable
chinrest may be put on at this time."
Although the instrument was made in 1979, the violin is still new and so it hasn't "opened up" yet.
A few words about "opened up"
"Then the instrument begins the "playing-in" process, as its parts
adjust to the string tension. The sound of a violin is said to "open
up" in the first weeks and months of use, a process which continues
more gradually over the years."
The winner of this auction will have that pleasure
The label inside says in German
"Dieses Instrument wurde in der Roth-Werkstatt spielfertighergestellt und entspricht den MaBen fur Schulerinstrumente
Ernst Heinrich Roth
Bubenreuth, West Germany"
Then there's the Roth "R" in a circle and next to it "modell" (written) #68 and "datum' (written) 1/79 Although there's no case, I may choose to ship with one if I can find something and so I'm calculating the shipping based on the weight with a case.
If its lower, I'll be happy to make the adjustment.
