The polariscope is used to test gemstones (cut or rough) for single or double refraction. Two polarising filters allows the observation of the structure and optical properties of precious stones or minerals. Includes LED flashlight light source that attaches beneath the polariscope and protective carrying case.

Operating Information :

1.     Put the flashlight into the opening under the polariscope

2.     Tighten the screw to hold the flashlight secure

3.     Insert the removable lens into the polariscope with narrow end down

4.     Place Gemstone in the prong holder into the open space as shown

5.     Turn on flashlight. Hold the upper portion of the polariscope to your eye

6.     With the gemstone visible through the upper portion, slowly turn the Rotating Lens exactly 1 full rotation. Count the number of times the gemstone darkens during the rotation. That count indicates the refractivity of the gemstone.  Repeat the process to double-check your count.

This multi-use desktop LED light is ideal for a variety of purposes but is most suited to use with a polariscope, darkfield loupe and gem refractometer. The light is composed of 3 white LED bulbs - this lamp is very bright. Lamp is powered by Two AA batteries which is not included. This unit is compatible with our separately listed Polariscope and Darkfield loupe.
