This is the TRUE FIRST ISSUE of this classic sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
A true 1st issue of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is unobtainable.
In the Original red gilt binding. All edges gilt. Macmillan and Co., London, 1872.
In the original red cloth binding. Hinges sound, interior paper shows starting. General rubs to the binding. Some foxing. An early inscription dated 1872 and a bookplate. Just under 7 1/2 inches tall. Original binder's ticket on rear pastedown.
The sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass: "...equals its predecessor in the brilliance of its nonsense, and features many characters who quickly became immortals of children's literature the Red Queen, the White Queen, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Humpty Dumpty, and the White Knight." (Carpenter & Prichard, 527).
With 50 woodcut illustrations and frontispiece by John Tenniel.
First issue with misprint "wade" instead of "wabe" on page 21. (Williams, Madan & Green 84.)
