Complete in 12-volumes, as stated on the title pages. London, Otridge and Rackham, Strand, et al... First edition thus (i.e. a First edition by this publisher). 6 5/8 inches tall.

A beautiful and early set, in near exceptionally fine condition. All hinges very fresh, leather fresh, and the interior is about free of foxing. This set retains the original boards and has been skillfully rebacked in period style. The hinges are exceptionally fresh and supple. These can be opened/read without damage. These are very tightly bound and try to close when opened. The covers have a double ruled gilt frame. The edges are marbled. There is a small bookplate, inconspicuously placed on the second fep. An early and faint previous owners name on the half title. The bindings are very tight. This is a very well preserved set with only some very light general wear. This set has been particularly well preserved and displays beautifully.

Fielding is considered to be the founder of the novel of incident and to have broadened the novel form by his development of character along with plot. His masterpiece is Tom Jones (1749), a novel recounting the wild comic adventures of the good-hearted though highly fallible foundling, Tom Jones.

This set displays beautifully, and would make an excellent addition to any antiquarian library.
