If you're after a quality LP style guitar from a top Brand with plenty of vibe and heritage, Tokai's ALS48 is one you should look hard at.
Very nicely finished, quality materials and excellent workmanship combine to produce an excellent guitar that plays and sounds really good.
The ALS48 has a traditional looking square headstock, tapered in slightly in the middle. The Face is gloss black, with Tokai's logo in Green Abolone at the top, and 'Love Rock' in gold script, a bit of a rip-off of the Les Paul logo of course, but this is what Tokai are famous for!
The rear of the headstock is a dark red Mahogany colour, with the guitars serial number and 2 rows of Vintage style machine heads, enclosed Chrome with green plastic buttons.
The set neck is Maple, and it pretty slim, a nice C profile, with a gloss finish to the rear. The bright white nut width is 42mm.
The Rosewood fretboard is nicely finished off, fully bound in cream plastic, fretwork is good and tidy. White Crown Abolone inlays mark the usual positions. Action at the 12th fret is about 3mm on the bass side, 2mm on the treble, so this model is very well set-up straight from the factory.
The neck joins the Alder body at the 16th fret on the bass side, and 19th on the treble, all standard Les Paul stuff. The top of the body is fully bound in cream plastic. The rear is plain old dark red, with just the 2 access plates in black.
The front of the burst versions has an attractive flame Sycamore finish, not as prominent as on the Custom versions Tokai make, but very nice all the same. The Dark Cherryburst colour is a deep red fade, whereas the Tobacco Sunburst is more brown. The Black versions don't have the Flame top.
The Scratchplate is single ply in Cream, matching the pickup surrounds and switch backplate.
The pickups are a pair of Tokai's PAF-Vintage Mk4's in Chrome. They're very impressive as well, with plenty of clarity and tonal range on both your clean and distorted channels - a real rocker this one.
The tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece are also finished off in Chrome. The 2 volume controls and 2 tones are Amber speed knobs, and the 3 way selector switch is a snazzy Vintage yellow.
In all, a great LP Standard at a great price. Good finish, excellent pickups, a quality brand and plenty of vibe for your money!
