Though John Deere is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, the leaping deer trademark was not used in the early days of the business. Although John Deere started in the plow business in 1837, the first federal
laws for the registry of trademarks was established in 1870. It was probably about this time that the first John Deere leaping deer trademark appeared.
