This is a half pound bag of Szechuan Peppercorns.   This size bag contains 8 ounces. This spice is very aromatic and has a flavor that is slightly hot, citric, but not similar to that of black pepper.  It is actually not a true peppercorn but the berry for a plant called Prickly Ash.  Origin:  China.  

Szechuan peppercorns are also called Sichuan pepper, Chinese pepper, Japanese pepper, Szetchwan pepper, and Prickly Ash.  Szechuan Peppercorns are used in Chinese,Japanese, Korean, and Himalayan cooking.

Uses:  Try adding Szechuan peppercorns to soups and stew, but do so in either a tea ball or in cheesecloth for easy removal when the soup is complete.  

Also, they can be toasted in a dry skillet before grinding to release their full flavor.  

Use them in a dedicated peppercorn grinder on fish, poultry and vegetables.
