The text has been collated and compared to another copy: Lacks blank pages, frontispiece and last leaf of text. The missing leaves have been provided in excellent facsimile on 1672 original period (not reproduction) paper. There are a few mispaginations, but the book collates as complete (other that the afore mentioned leaves). There are two bookplates inside the front board. The first reads: "This Book belongs to Warren Ariail," the second: "Oscar Boulton, Kenward, Yalding, Kent." Laid in is an old newspaper clipping, dated 1870, attesting to Nostradamus prophecies being realized.

Michel de Nostredame (December 14, 1503 – July 2, 1566), usually Latinized to Nostradamus, was a French apothecary and reputed seer who published collections of prophecies that have since become famous world-wide. He is best known for his book Les Propheties, the first edition of which appeared in 1555.

[The complete] version contains one unrhymed and 941 rhymed quatrains, grouped into nine sets of 100 and one of 42, called "Centuries"." Nostradamus when transcribing his quatrains wrote mostly in French mixed with Latin and Greek in an attempt to throw off witch hunters of the day. Unfortunately, at one point in his life, he burned his library of magical/astrological texts in an attempt to stave off unwanted attention.

While alive, his most famous prediction, which also brought him public notarity, appears in quatrain 1-35: "The young Lion shall overcome the old one, In Martial field by a single Duel, In a Golden Cage he shall be put out his Eye, Two wounds from one, then he shall die a cruel death." This foretold the death of King Henry II during a jousting tournament at his daughter's wedding in 1559.

Quatrain 1-60 foretold the birth of Napoleon: "An Emperor shall be born near Italy, Who shall cost dear to the Empire, They shall say, with what people he keepeth company! He shall be found less a Prince, than a Butcher."

Quatrain 2-24, 3-35 and 4-56 are in regard to Hitler: "Wild Beasts for hunger shall swim over Rivers, Most part of the field shall be near Ister (Hister), Into an Iron Cage he shall cause the great one to be drawn, When the Child of German(y) shall observe nothing. Out of the deepest part of the West of Europe, From poor people a young child shall be born, Who with his tongue shall seduce many people, His fame shall increase in the Eastern Kingdom. After the Victory got over a raging tongue, The mind that was temped, shall be in tranquility and rest, The bloody Conqueror by Battle shall make a Speech, And roast the tongue, the flesh, and the bones."

Some feel quatrain 6-37 references the assassination of John F. Kennedy: "The ancient work shall be finished, From the tiling shall fall upon the great one an evil ruine, The innocent declared to be so, shall be accused after his death, The guilty shall be hidden in a wood in a misty weather."

Many believe quatrain 6-97 speaks of the tragedy of 9-11: "The Heaven shall burn at five and forty degrees, The first shall come near the great new city, In an instant a great flame dispersed shall burst out, When they shall make a trial of the Normans."

Since the publication of this book, which has rarely been out of print since his death, Nostradamus has attracted an almost cult following. His many enthusiasts, as well as the popular press generally, credit him with predicting numerous major world events." (Wikipedia; The History Channel).

OCLC lists only five other copies. A very rare and important title.
