Sun Wu Kong (Aka Monkey King) is the main Character from the novel "Journey to the West" written by Wu Cheng'En during the Ming dynasty. In this story, Sun, a monkey born from a stone, is the apprentice of the Eminent monk Xuang Zang. Song Wu Kong had the power to see through the disguises of hobgoblins and demons. He was able to morph into 72 different shapes,for example, bird, tree, buddha, human. He was also able to somersault over 108 000 Li (a chinese measure of distance equal to 500 meters). His weapon called the Monkey King bar can change anything into what he wishes. He becomes the king of the "Flower and Fruit mountain". He loses control and begins abusing his power. The heavens turn against him, and call the Buddha Tathagata to control him. He then becomes trapped for 500 years, before being released by the Godess of Mercy. She gives him the task to protect Xuang Zang on his journey to the west to find Buddhist Scriptures. They go through 81 troubles before reaching their goal, doing good things along the way. At the end of their journey it is decided by the Tathagata Buddha that they have earned the right to become Buddha's.
