SET 7 ORIG WWII MAPS 1944 European & Pacific Theater

Price: $49.00
This is a set of 7 vintage maps depicting the fronts of World War II.
Each map has an unprinted border on all four sides that show a moderate amount
of wear from handling and storage. There are a few short tears. The map images
themselves show very little wear, if any, and very little damage, with bright, clean
colors and smooth surfaces. They are not perfect, as they are printed on a wartime
papaer that is showing some signs of aging. However, they were stored rolled and have
no folds or creases, and have not been written on.

These maps each have a caption describing in a dozen lines or so the area shown in the map,
it's strategic importance and what is likely to come in that area. These captions are signed in facsimile
by George Fielding Eliot, possibly the publisher. Each has a small slug at the bottom edge reading,
Printed in U.S.A.

The publisher is REMINGTON RAND, and a small line appears at bottom advertising Remington Rand
typewriter ribbons and copy-holders. I believe Remington Rand also had a contract to produce a series
of pistols for the U.S. during WWII.

The maps are each copyrighted 1944, and describe and ongoing conflict. They are signed in small script,
and I believe the name is Kenneth W. (? Cunningham?)

Each map also gives latitude and longitude and distances of the areas depicted, on the left edge of the printed area.

MAP I - The Russian Front. This map has one or two very short tears in the border areas. There are a few very light partial creases
where a small bend may have occured at one time. Not much edgewear to this one. 18" high by 20" wide, approx. Excellent bright colors.

MAP II- The Balkans. The left edge has a three inch tear that extends into the extreme edge of the printed area. There are also several very short tears on
this edge, and considerable edgewear at the top left corner of the border. 18" H x 21.25" wide.

MAP III - Italy and South France. Several short tears along the left lower border, and also an area of general moderate edgewearr at the upper left corner of the border. There is an approximate 2" tear at the lower left edge that impinges slightly into the printed caption. Bottom left edge also has some moderate edgewear. Several light partial creases over the face of the map from handling. Clean bright colors with some light aging to border.

MAP IV- The Western Front. Very little edgewear, a few very minor signs of surface creasing, no tears or chips. 18 x 21.

Map V- Southeastern Asia. 4 short 1" tears in the left side border. Some light bottom edgewear. Bright and clean, 18 x 21.

MAP VI - The Southwestern Pacific. Bottom left corner edge and side left corner edge have some edgewear. Otherwise bright and clean. 18 x 21.

MAP VII - Single 2-3 inch tear at the lower left border. Upper left edge has a short area of edgewear. A very tiny water stain at the bottom right border edge. Minimal aging, no damage seen to print area.

The color of all of these prints has held up gorgeously, without feathering, fading or acidifying. I presume a they were made lithographically with good quality inks. THe colors are very true:marine blue, white, spring green, desert yellow, tan. The greens are greener than shown in the photos.
