1927 fabric covered book SILENT STORMS by Ernest Poole. Very cool - the edges are not straight cut, see the photo above. Spine is solid. No ripped or torn pages but some dirt smears. Smells a little musty, but it is 85 years old!! Published by Macmillan Company in New York Poole worked as a journalist campaigning for social reforms including an end to child labor. On the outbreak of the First World War he worked as a war correspondent for The Saturday Evening Post. His novel, His Family, won the first Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1918. Silent Storms tells the story of Barry McClurg, Wall Street financier, and his marriage to a French woman half his age. Smoke-free home.
