Hello!  My name is Ryan Hurd and I am a bladesmith.  I am 16 years old and I've been doing this for several years now.  I find bladesmithing to be an enjoyable job and I am good at it!  I have started my own business, Young Buck Blacksmithing, as a result of that.

 

This is a beautiful knife that was handforged completely by me.  The benefit of a handforged knife is the distal taper that this knife has.  This makes the blade geometry much more effective for cutting and yet keeps the knife thick for strength.  It has been recycled from old truck springs (GO GREEN!).  It was forged quickly and very close to shape.  It is about 8 inches long. It was oil-hardened and tempered and then convex ground.  It was then sharpened on Japanese water stones and honed with a strop.  It has been polished but I left some of the texture of the springs in for contrast.  This makes it a great looking knife!

 

This knife is cord wrapped with 550 paracord.  It is an extremely durable cord that the army uses on their parachutes.  This knife also has a lanyard for easy carrying. 

 

This is a great knife for hunting use or just as a general all-purpose knife.  Since it is totally handmade, it is also an extremely unique collector item.  It makes a great gift and is a joy to use.
