This is the second
generation of Earthy-Fresh Shaving Cream by Shamrock Shaving. This
8-oz. tin has all the great ingredients that went into my popular and
successful cream before, but now with stearic acid for longer-lasting
lather. My shaving cream contains hand-crafted soap from basic organic
oils, as well as lanolin and Redmond bentonite clay to give the
slickest, most comfortable possible shave and leave your skin softened
and enlivened. I put more into this cream than you'll find in any of
the expensive European creams, for much less money.
Shamrock Earthy-Fresh Cream contains generous amounts of Redmond
bentonite clay. The best commercial shaving soaps have bentonite clay
because it makes your face slippery so the razor glides across it,
giving a closer shave without razor "drag" or burn. The most expensive
shaving lathers, however, are the luxury creams that leave this helpful
ingredient out. The beautiful pearly look of Vulfix, Truefitt &
Hill and Trumper's comes from carefully blended stearic acid, but clay
ruins the effect. So although I add stearic beads to give my cream a
fuller, longer-lasting lather, I also add the Redmond clay to give your shave
a slick, comfy glide.
Also, you'll look far and
wide for a cream containing real lanolin. Shamrock Earthy-Fresh is more
than 2 percent pure lanolin, which leaves your face even softer than
glycerin alone can make it.
Earthy-Fresh uses a stronger blend
of essential oils than other creams I've used. A combination of
lavender, peppermint and rosemary gives Earthy-Fresh its signature
calming and invigorating scent. The rosemary is an astringent, which
leaves your pores nice and tight, while the lavender-peppermint gives
your wetted face a warm-cool sensation. The brisk sweet-and-musky scent
makes aftershave unnecessary.
Last of all, Shamrock's shaving
cream is a great deal. I decided to try making my own cream after
buying a Moss Scuttle so I could make HOT foam with a badger brush. The
drawback was, I was spending about 75 cents each morning, filling the
scuttle with enough British luxury cream to make the lather in the bowl
both thick and hot. Not only is this cream less expensive -- less than
half as much per ounce as Truefitt & Hill or other top brands -- it also
produces more lather by weight than commercial creams I've used. Once you dip
the brush and start swirling it around your face, it fairly explodes
into white, creamy, whisker-enveloping lather, with an even more
powerful aroma that opens your nostrils and makes you glad you're a man
who shaves with a blade.
