This is a square-tip, three-quarter-hollow-ground, 5/8-width straight razor made in Prussia -- a rare origin for German razors -- in the early-mid 1900s for the American Bindley Hardware Company. The scrollworked faux-ivory scales show a patina of age that, according to preference, may add to the collector's look of this razor. The blade has been painstakingly brought to a mirror finish; one tiny indented freckle of tarnish remains on the face. The pins are tight and the blade closes in the center of the scales without wobble or bite.

I like my razors to look good, but I only shave with a straight-edge and I restore these for the purpose of giving people a flawless shaving tool. The edge has been carefully honed on two grades of DMT diamond hone, two finer grades on a Norton water hone, lapped on balsa blocks with two grades of fine diamond grit and chrome oxide, then finished off with 60 strops on oiled latigo leather. The result is the only standard I accept: an edge that will cut a hanging hair at multiple points and deliver the smoothest, closest possible shave. With daily use and proper stropping and this razor shouldn't need to be any time honed soon. After sharpness-testing it's has been rubbed down with a silicone-impregnated cloth to give it a glossy moisture barrier.
