Impressive, But Not Intimidating

This F.A. Clauberg "Laminated Steel" square-tip, full-hollow-ground razor is an excellent choice for either a beginning straight-edge shaver or for someone who simply appreciates a shorter blade's ability to navigate the angles and creases of a man's face. My own first razor was a short Henckels, because I was afraid of those three-and-a-half-inch blades. I now use a monstrous 4-inch Sheffield wedge, but with all of us being traumatized by the way Hollywood uses straight razors as props in murder shows, some of us would rather not shave with a five-inch Sweeney Todd Special. This two-and-a-smidge-inch blade is nonetheless longer than some of the straights that were ground with just a one-and-a-bit blade hanging out on the end of a long tang, around the turn of the last century, perhaps to appeal to shavers who appreciated the narrowness of the new Gillette safety razors.

The blade has a slight lopsided grin from years of honing, and measures a little under 5/8 at the toe and a little over 5/8 at the heel. But every bit of the edge is super sharp, and will render a comfy shave. The steel has decades of life in it, for the right owner who will treat it with respect.

To make this a handsome razor worthy of remaining in your future or current shaving rotation, I went to my friend, Doug Marcotte of Tucson, for a custom set of Fancy French Walnut scales with desert ironwood spacer, fastened with pewter-tone stainless washers and polished copper pins. This razor has been rebuilt to last a lifetime or longer.

Truly Shave-Ready

I like my razors to look good, but I only shave with a straight-edge and I restore these for the purpose of giving people a flawless shaving tool. The edge has been carefully honed on both sides of a DMT Duosharp and a Norton water hone, lapped on balsa blocks with two grades of fine diamond grit and chrome oxide, then finished off with 60 strops on smooth saddle leather. The result is the only standard I accept: an edge that will cut a hanging hair at multiple points and deliver the smoothest, closest possible shave. With daily use and proper stropping and this razor shouldn't need to be rehoned any time honed soon. After sharpness-testing it's has been rubbed down with a silicone-impregnated cloth to give it a glossy moisture barrier.

Satisfaction Guaranteed

I take pride in my work and will refund any customer who isn't satisfied with their razor, including the cost of return shipping.

Free Shaving Soap

I also make and sell premium, heavily-scented shaving creams and soaps. With this razor you'll get a free four-ounce cup of my luxury soap made enriched with extra glycerin and special ingredients for a long-lasting, moisturizing lather. This is home-made soap which I sell for $6 per cake.

Other Shaving Products

I also sell hand-crafted shaving cream with the same luxurious ingredients as my soap, but with the scent-releasing properties of creams and with lanolin to be extra kind to the skin.

In addition to more great shavers, my other listing include beautiful 3-inch-wide deluxe razor strops made from heaviest saddle leather and hardware. Check out Marcotte table strops, 18 inches long, made of beautiful bloodwood mounted with thick, smooth strips of heavy-grain saddle leather.

Razor honing and restoration

I also offer a razor-sharpening and -polishing service starting at $20, and I can have Marcotte custom replacement scales installed on your razor at varying prices. Doug Marcotte's scales are made of carefully selected finest hardwoods and each set of scales is made to fit a particular blade with minimum space between blade and spacer, and with friction washers to help keep the heel of the blade dry, free of unnecessary wear and with even tension on the blade at every angle. Washers are flat or domed, in brass or stainless steel, and pins are in brass, nickel or copper.
