I am pleased to present for sale this monumental 19th century Solid Brass Column Cranberry Glass Font Banquet Lamp with its Large Original Hand-Painted Ball Shade. This stunning lamp measures a total height to the top of the chimney of 38 inches, height to the shade fitter is 27 1/4 inches, and the lamp base alone weighs 13 lbs. The vintage replacement glass chimney measures 10 3/4 inches tall, and the original gorgeous hand-painted ball shade measures 10 inches high,with a 3 1/4 inches opening at the original brass ring top, 4 inches across the base opening, and the ball shade alone weighs 3 lbs 5 oz.
The gorgeous hand-painted ball shade offers a young maiden with her lamps , the shade has its old brass shade ring at the top and the shade has no repairs, cracks or splits but some nics and roughness to the base portion that fits into the shade fitter and some light wear to the hand-painting as age appropriate. The heavy solid brass column base offers its original old beautiful cranberry glass font ( font shows no signs of damage), that rests in between three dimensional brass Ram heads each having cascading wreaths flowing from their ears, with a solid brass fluted column joining a tripod style brass base offering floral swags and tassels cascading around the base. Also note the fancy horse shoe fitter for the chimney....a wonderful unusual detail. The wonderful lamp base is also in excellent antique condition with no damage noted.
This lamp has been electrified at some point ( works fine )and could most likely be returned to oil burning with minimal effort if one desired to. I assure you the pictures do not do this lamp justice and this lamp is much more impressive in person. A magnificent, large 19th century banquet lamp with a commanding presence that would be a wonderful addition to your Victorian Decor or antique lamp collection.
