Description: It is an original antique map approximately 135 years old with original hand coloring and a centerfold as issued with the plate marks embossed around the edges. It is designed by A. Petermann, stated in the title block and is from the 1876 edition of Stieler's Hand Atlas, published in Gotha by Justus Perthes. The publisher and date are shown on the map in the bottom margin and the name of the atlas is in the upper right corner. The map is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. The Stieler maps are some of the most detailed of the 19th century in the German tradition of cartography. There are nice insets of the Shetland and Orkney Islands and of the Environment of Edinburgh.
Size: The map image measures approximately 13 by 16 inches on a 15 by 18 1/2" page as seen in the pic with a wide margin all around for framing as seen in the main pic.
Condition: The map is in Very Good condition with original handcolor with embossed plate marks around the margin. It is blank on the reverse, printed on strong paper with a centerfold as issued. It is basically as seen in the pics. Other than a few spots around the margins as seen the map is very clean and would frame up nicely. See the pic for more on condition.
