TALES OF KUMAMOTO (2001) - REMASTERED Takashi Miike
NUMAMOTO MONOGATARI - Takashi Miike steps into the pages of history, taking the lives and legends of Kumamoto and bringing them to life in a series of short films done for the historical society of the region. Kumamoto Monogatari consists of three separate narratives, each of which is set sometime in the past.
"THE TONKARIN DREAM LEGEND" - revolves around a young woman who summons a magical being to defeat an invading army.
"THE SONG OF SAKIMORO" - (opens with an epic battle sequence in 3-D!) reveals the lazy days of two frustrated soldiers posted as sentries on a lonely island.
"WOMEN OF THE REVOLT OF THE CLANS" - tells of how a band of rebels trapped by a vast army defend themselves against their attackers.
