RAISE THE CASTLE! (2006)
Chikujo Seyo! - A bit like Akira Kurosawa meets Monty Python in director Yo Kohatsu's satirical tale of a Samurai Lord's 400 year quest to build the castle of his dreams.
Samurai Lord Ondaji and two of his retainers from the 17th Century rise from the dead in a depopulated town in Aichi Prefecture to build a castle that he failed to complete almost 400 years ago.
Since he has only been allowed three days of life, and after seeing a homeless person's house, he finally decides to build his castle with cardboard along with some of the towns people who want to revitalize the town.
It's an absurd story, but the castle looks great and Kabuki actor Ainosuke gives a powerful performance as the feudal Lord who arrogantly orders people to build the castle.
Ignored at first, his passionate devotion to build a castle gradually unites the towns people's hearts, however, Ondaiji may find his lifelong dream turning particularly soggy come first rain.
