Usugesho – Gosha Hideo spent five years to work out the plot of this film.
Based on a true story set in postwar Japan, a tale about a psycho-killer who murders his family, dynamites the home of the woman who rejects him and tunnels his way out of prison. After an accident, mineworker Sakane receives a huge sum of money as compensation. Something changes in him overnight, as his thirst for desire becomes uncontrollable, and his brutish nature takes over his being. Sakane begins an affair with his friend's wife, and then murder's his own wife and son. When his lust for his friend's daughter is not met, he blows up their house.
Sakane is soon placed under arrest and then thrown in jail. After an attempted suicide, he manages to escape prison and becomes a fugitive. When his path crosses with Chie, a gentle woman who falls deeply in love with Sakane, he finds himself at a turning point in his life, and unsure if he will ever be able to escape from his past.
