Genji monogatari: Sennen no nazo -
In addition to the familiar story of Genji and his love affairs, this version presents a new twist by integrating the story of the novel's creator Murasaki and her increasing obsession with her literary creation.
During the Heian period, Lord Fujiwara orders Murasaki to write a romance story for his daughter in order to make her more attractive to the Emperor. As a result, Murasaki creates a story about Genji, a fictional emperor's son who looks for love in several ladies of the court - including his wife Aoi, the refined Rokujo, and his stepmother Fujitsubo. As the audiences in the Heian Court grow enchanted by the story, Lord Fujiwara begins to fall for Murasaki. However, the author realizes that she is gradually falling in love with her leading character instead.
