MUSASHI LONDON - NY VERSION (Theatrical Play) (2011)

MUSASHI LONDON - NY VERSION - Famed playwright Inoue Hisashi’s play depicts the spirit of the Samurai and the futility of revenge.

The unsmiling 17th-century rival warriors at the center of Hisashi Inoue’s remarkable play, directed by Yukio Ninagawa, are every bit as adamantine and blood-lusty as films like Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai” taught us to believe their breed were. Set in early 17th century Japan, six years after the duel between legendary swordsmen Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro, we follow Musashi as he joins a group of men on a mission for retribution.

Brought to life through the intense drama and riotous comedy of Ninagawa Yukio’s lavish directorial rendering, the play combines the modern styles of both ‘Noh’ and ‘Kyogen'. The play is based on a popular 1930s novel that starts with a legendary duel between the swordsman Musashi and his archrival, Kojiro.

This theatrical event features two of Japan’s best known and most talented young actors, Fujiwara Tatsuya as Musashi and Katsuji as Kojiro.
