The book is intended for schoolchildren who have completed studying the textbooks Basic Course - 1 and Basic Course - 2. It is meant for a year and a half or two years of studies (two lessons a week plus an hour of homework). As a result of doing this textbook the pupils will extend their knowledge gained from the basic course by mastering complicated grammar forms and syntactical constructions. For example, they will be able to use sentences with the non-finite forms of the verb or with the short form of the adjectives. After finishing this Course the pupils will make their speech more varied and expressive. Like in the basic course the pupil learns patterns, not grammar rules. The patterns are taken from abridged extracts from works of fiction. The pupil's vocabulary is increased still by 1200 - 1700 words giving him the ability to speak fluent Russian and write correctly.

Nina Sergeyevna Vlasova (grammar, word-building, exercises on the texts) is candidate of philological sciences. She taught Russian for foreign students at one of the Moscow institutes. She was a head the Chair of Russian as a Foreign Language in the Moscow Conservatoire. She is one of the founders of methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language.
Lilia Leonidovna Belskaya (choosing the literary matter and adaptation) is a doctor of philology, professor of the Teacher-training University of Kazakhstan. She is an expert on the Russian Literature of the 19th and the 20th centuries and on Prosody, the author of a number of textbooks for high school students, for students of Philology and teachers of Slavic studies in classical and modern Russian literature.
