I am pleased to offer to your attention an original vintage Jewish National Fund Golden Book Certificate. The certificate is signed by Avraham Granot chairman of the JNF Board of Directors in 1960. Granot was one of the signers of the Israeli declaration of independence in 1948. In 1949 he was elected to the first Knesset. Measures approx. 44 x 34 cm (17.5" x 13.5") Framed size 50 x 34 cm. This is a great item of Jewish history and it will be a great addition to your Judaica collection.
The Jewish National Fund (JNF) or Keren Kayemet Le Israel (KKL) was founded in 1901 in Basel, Switzerland to buy and develop land in Palestine for Jewish settlement. By 2006 it owned 14% of the total land in Israel. Over the past century JNF has planted over 240 million trees, built over 180 reservoirs and dams, developed over 250,000 acres of land, created more than 1,000 parks, provided the infrastructure for 1,000 communities and educated students around the world about Israel and the environment.
Information about hundreds of thousands of Jewish National Fund donors has been preserved in seven Honor Books dating back to 1901. These books -- the Golden Book, the Children's Book, the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Book, the Marriage Book, the Book of Plantings, the Book of Special Gifts and the Aliyah Book together constitute an expression of the tie between the Jewish Diaspora and the land of Israel. Over the years, the pages of the Golden Books have filled with thousands of names. Kings, presidents, and statesmen from many nations including Lord Balfour, Sir Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Zvi Schapira, David Wolfsohn, and Moses Montifiore. as well as Jewish people around the world who represent all economic levels. The Golden Books have become a kind of “medal of honor” awarded to all who have been recognized by the Jewish people for their contribution to Zionist work.
