Thanks For Looking!!!

This is a HUGE Isurus hastalis, better known as the Extinct MAKO SHARK tooth fossil from South Carolina. This tooth measures 2-9/16 inches long!!! This is quite large for this species and it is in very good shape.

NO REPAIR!!! NO POLISHING!!! NO FUNNY BUSINESS WHATSOEVER!!!! When you buy from the Tooth Sleuth you are buying a 100% Guaranteed authentic fossil in its natural state unless otherwise CLEARLY NOTED!

This tooth was found while SCUBA diving in over 40 feet of some of the blackest and murkiest water you can imagine! Even with powerful lights you cannot see anything including your dive gauges! These teeth are found by feeling your way around on the bottom of a mucky, brackish water river where there are sting rays, sharks and even alligators! There are also very strong currents in these rivers that have claimed the lives of many very skilled SCUBA divers. Many people do not realize that most of the south eastern U.S.A. teeth are found in rivers and NOT the ocean. This is due to the fact that millions of years ago the land we now stand on was covered by the sea. When the oceans receded, the rivers were formed by the ocean's tidal currents and water flowing down hill from mountains and eventually formed the coastal rivers we know today. These rivers have carved their way into the land and into the fossil layers exposing these magnificent fossil shark teeth.

There is a widely accepted theory in science of estimating the size of the shark by the diagonal length of its four upper front teeth. The diagonal length of a tooth is measured from the longest root corner to the tip of the tooth. This theory states that there would be approximately ten feet of shark for every one inch of tooth. This tooth measures 2-9/16 inches long which means the shark that once owned it would have been up to 25 feet long! Considering this theory we can also estimate that this shark would have been MUCH BIGGER than most GREAT WHITE Sharks that live today.

These Shark Teeth Fossils make OUTSTANDING fish aquarium displays because no sharks were harmed in obtaining them! Kids love them and they are highly educational!
