25" long composition and cloth German Puz doll. She is marked "Germany" on the back of her neck and I believe to be manufactured by Kammer and Reinhardt or possibly FS&Co.
Composition flanged head with brown molded hair that turns easily from side to side. Open, happy, smiling or laughing mouth with 2 upper teeth and a celluloid tongue. Dimples in her chubby cheeks and very detailed ears for a doll of this vintage.
She has typical Puz arms & hands with the right hand being clenched into a fist except for the index finger and thumb - Sign language for "I love you." The left hand is clenched into a fist except for the thumb... for sucking, of course. The arms are made of THICK celluloid, not the thin, brittle kind. The shoulders are jointed to the cloth body with inside ball-in-socket joints (there is a socket inside the muslin that the shoulder fits into from the outside.) Composition bent baby legs to upper thighs.
The doll has blue, glass eyes. They are flirty eyes that move from side to side as well as open and close (sleepy movement). Because they are glass, they are heavier than American made flirty eyes and thus move more evenly and naturally. This doll has separate eyelids that are also weighted and come down over the eyes when the doll lies on it's back. The eyelashes are rooted into the eyelids.
This doll has very interesting provenance. There is writing on the neckboard that goes into the bottom of the head to prevent stuffing from the torso from leaking into the head. There are 2 writings. One is in ink and I assume written by someone at the manufacturer which looks like a price (sometimes heads were sold separately to replace broken heads). The other is in pencil and it says, "zu meiner Tochter meine Liebe fur immer," which translates into English as, "To my daughter my love forever." The restoration artist also found a lock of hair folded inside the doll, which could have belonged to either the mom or the daughter (or the dad if he was a hippie).
