Guys, the A&M 12th Man isn't just a trademark, it's a tradition with the Aggies.

It is also a symbol of all the Aggies that graduated from the Corps (of Cadets), went into military service and paid the ultimate price.

It is also a symbol of the helping hand (IE spirit) that is instilled in each and every Aggie.

Guarantee you nothing would ever make the Aggies sell their copyright to the 12th man. Bill Gates couldn't afford to buy that trademark.

I don't think they need to sell it. I don't even believe that they should but you can also simply chose not to enforce it. Seattles use of it does not lessen A&Ms tradition nor does it infringe upon any financial income they may garner from it. Considering that both organization use the term as a source of respect and honor for their fans, it seems in tremendously bad taste for one to say that the other cannot use it.

Fenix, think that rationing would work with Starbucks, WalMart, IBM or even "The Fighting Irish"?

Seattle using the phrase "12th man" would infringe on a trademark that is most identified with A&M.

I know most people outside of College Station (Tx) can't identify with the reasoning, you have to be a Aggie to understand.

And before you make fun of Aggies, one of the most famous of all Aggies founded Texas Instruments, the company that made the processor in your Mac.

Bear - I have not made fun of the Aggies, A&M or of their tradition yet. Why would I start now?

I will say this...infringe on a trademark that is most identified with A&M... maybe at A&M and in the surrounding communities but I've heard the term 12th Man for years and until this lawsuit, never once was it in conjunction with A&M.

Also, I don't think you can equate the 12th Man trademark with Starbucks or Walmart for the simple reason A&Ms 12th man is a not an income producing trade name and the Seahawks have not used it to produce merchanidise. (I notice you left out Xerox as that is a perfect example of a trademark that has become a commonplace term).

Fenix, the point I was trying to make is that the Aggies take the "12th man" more seriously that anyone outside Texas can imagine. They relate that tradition to themselves like corporate giants relate to their corporate logo, (IE Starbucks, Walmart, IBM or The Fighting Irish).

The reason I mentioned making fun of Aggies is that A&M because of its rural surroundings & humble background tends to make a lot of people look down on them compared to the urbane and suave elegant grace and money of the University of Texas or as us Aggie supporters refer to the school as TU which irritated a true UT fan.

I should have made that distinction earlier in my comment about making fun of Aggies.

In truth the biggest Aggie joke fans are Aggies themselves.

I don't think I know who Troy Polamalu is. Is he the guy with the really long hair?

Thats another thing I thought they used to have rules about hair and beards?? I saw so many players with beards this season. (including the Seahawks)

I'm still rooting for the underdog! what did you expect?

Oh fenix, the Steelers ride the short school bus?

Polamalu is the guy with the long hair. He's just amazing. there was one coach that joked that if you are going to watch film on Polamolu you have to do it on a wide screen TV because the guy is EVERYWHERE. He's a neat story too. His teammates say that as hardnosed and intense as he is on the field is as sweet and gentle as he is off the field. I think the biggest indicator of the kind of guy he is is when he got ROBBED on that interception. Most players would have been b*tching and complaining when that call was reversed... He just grinned, got up, put his helmet on and got back on the field... and nearly intecepted the very next pass again.

As for the short yellow school bus... that's not the team bus thats THE Bus and I think we can all agree that Jerome isn't exactly the tall lanky type.

Pittsburgh is going all out for this Super Bowl. All week people have been wearing Steelers clothing and hats,Steelers Flags are flying everywhere, thousands of homes have GO STEELERS SIGNS and LOGOS in their windows and yards.

There has been hundreds of GO STEELERS office and home parties this week in and around Pittsburgh. Thats not counting the thousands of parties today SUPER BOWL SUNDAY.

Local schools are on a 2 hour delay opening for tomorrow because of the game.

Strangers are saying GO STEELERS to one another while passing on the streets.

Today some 24/7 stores are closing early so their employees can watch the game.

If people don't live in or near a town with a PRO FOOTBALL TEAM, those poor people don't know the fun they are missing.

fenix, I watched some interviews with players, both sides, they all seem pretty humble and all, at least for the tv interviews

bigpeepa, the same thing here, but its just not this weekend, since the last championship game at Qwest field, people are flying the 12 flag (sorry A & M) and Seahawks everything.

I'm sure there will be more Steeler fans there today, but back home we're pulling for the Seahawks!

Good thing no takers Bear. Good game - strange but good. As sad as I was to actually hear Bettis say it was the end, I was glad that he was made the smart decision and went out with the ring in his home town on top of the game and still healthy. Such a classy guy. He deserves this win

I gotta stop getting this in to games. I think I hyperextended my elbow on the Steeler interception.

Near - sorry about the loss. To tell you the truth, the Seahawks were better than I thought they would be but I think there needs to be some serious work on learning time management in the off season.

Well we left early.. I couldn't bear to see anymore!

Well, at the least the Seahawks did make it to the Superbowl!

Now I guess I'll watch Greys Anatomy, previews looked good

Half time was ok, Rolling Stones and all..

Did anyone see any GREAT commercials, like they usually do during the SB?

Oh and about that play towards the beginning, that upstairs had to review..............

Ok, I'll be good Congrats Steelers!

Great commercials? No. I did like the H3 "Little Monster", (but I had seen that one before) and the streaking sheep Budweiser ones though.

Oh, and the Disneyworld commercials. The guys practicing how they would say "i'm Going to Disneyworld" Porter in the hot tub cracked me up.
