I received it a little earlier in my email also. They will be sending them to all former users. I moused over the link given and decided not to click on it. I think I'll go to their site and see if the same announcement is there.

The new BidPay model (similar to the PayPal one) sucks as it leaves Sellers wide open to Buyer fraud. You now need to ship by track & trace method within 7 or so days from payment. It's still unclear how well BidPay will filter transactions for potential fraud and what anti-fraud tools are in place compared to the old system that worked perfectly, both for buyers and sellers.

OK, so is the new BidPay an 'acceptable' payment on eBay? Are we allowed to charge extra for BidPal payments? (I know we can't for PayPal payments.)

YES, the NEW & UN-IMPROVED BIDPAY is feeBay APPROVED...

If you SURCHARGE a USA BIDPAY user (they ALL pay with CCs or debit cards) and that user complains to feeBay, ye are liable for problemos:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-surcharges.html

UNLESS yer from the UK, and yer buyer is from the UK, you CANNOT surcharge folks who pay you with a method based on credit card or debit card payments.

You CAN offer a DISCOUNT to those who pay with CKECKS or MOs!

NTM: why on earth would ya WANT to surcharge anyway?

Yup, BidPay's back and it's nothing more than a PayPal clone. Won't be using them that's for sure. Shame they couldn't have just left thing's alone.

If you're in the UK selling to other brits then you accept bank transfers (or deposits) which are free for both parties. No need for messy credit or debit cards. CASH is KING

There are still almost 550,000 sellers offering Bidpay in their tos. I am quite sure that most of them have never changed from when Bidpay closed down. The first one I read says "Payment from overseas can be Paypal, Bidpay, Money Order in US $$ or cash", seem to be two no-no's there. I wonder how many of them will now find that they are sent new Bidpay payments from buyers, and end up with charges they didn't expect.

Mike,

I'm surprised that you don't think BidPay beats PayPal for international buyers. The seller protection isn't any better than PP's, except that there isn't the confirmed address problem with payments from anywhere other than US, UK, or Canada. That's the reason I re-upped with BidPay.

Knocking on wood, knocking on head, fingers and toes crossed, I have never had a problem with PayPal, yet. They work for me. Granted their not ideal by any means but it is what the majority of buyers seem to prefer. I had used the old BidPay because they were a different service but now that they more or less a PayPal clone I'll just stick with PayPal. Besides, they screwed all of us last time around by going belly up and having all of us pulling our hair out trying to figure out how to get rid of all their dang logo's and the word BidPay from our listing's. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. They had their chance and they screwed it up.

I got the impression from one of the announcements Ebay made that the only chance a company will have to get on the approved list is to have some sort of dispute resolution provision in place that will allow buyers to do a chargeback against dishonest sellers. The trick is to find a service that is most fair to sellers. That's the reason I'd choose Bidpay, and maybe a couple others after I check them out. This is only the beginning of the program and there will be many changes in the near future. Look for bank to bank wire transfers to be next on the list of banned payment methods.

I asked power sellers' support about BidPay - is it now authorized or not. Here's the reply--make of it what you will:

"Dear Adele,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to Bid Pay.

BidPay is an accepted method of payment similar to PayPal that we accept
on the site. But they might want to contact BidPay at www.BidPay.com to
get more information. BidPay do offer their own Buyer Protection Program
as well so it is not included in ours.

Thanks again for being a valuable member of eBay community. I wish you
the best with your future transactions.

Sincerely,

Anna N.

So the seller still has to pay the fees??
There was a post about this last month if I recall. It doesn't sound any better than Paypal to me.

Let's review the SELLER'S PROTECTION POLICY from their TOS:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seller Protection:
For each Payment, if a Card payment submitted by a Buyer is approved by BidPay and applicable funds are remitted by BidPay to Seller’s Bank Account, BidPay shall assume the Chargeback risk for such Payment subject to satisfaction of ALL of the following conditions:
1. the goods shipped are not subject to the “Restricted Transactions” terms set forth in Section 2.1.e. below; (this one is OK -- easy to follow & the standard no-no's such as no MONKEY PORN, etc)
2. Seller ships goods using an established courier or postal service that provides shipment confirmation services;
(that seems a tad vague?)
3. the goods are shipped within seven (7) business days or the timeframe stated in the auction listing, whichever occurs earlier, of Seller’s receipt of the applicable funds from BidPay; (that's a tad MORE generous than PP, as PP requires 7 CALENDAR days)
4. the addressee information for the shipment is filled in correctly; (vague! Filled in CORRECTLY WHERE? BY WHOM? not sure WHAT they be saying here?)
5. Seller provides BidPay with a complete and accurate copy of the proof of shipment for the Transaction in question within three (3) business day of BidPay’s request for such documentation; (THIS could be very problematical, especially with USPS)
6. Seller was not engaged in illegal, fraudulent, or misleading activity related to the Transaction; (Oi! WTF does THAT mean? Open to a million interpretations?)
7. Seller assigns and delivers to BidPay the proceeds of any insurance recovery received from the delivery service if the shipment was insured; and, (seems EXCESSIVELY cumbersome?)
8. Seller is at all times in full compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, statutes, ordinances, and the terms and conditions of this Agreement (whatever, blah,blah...etc)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sadly, it appears that this is just a low-rent clone on PAYPAL -- we should start a POOL: "PREDICT THE DEMISE-MONTH FOR DA NEW & UN-IMPROVED BIDPAY!"

Got stuff? PLEASE join RALPHIE & ME in some AUCTIONS for our favorite NON-PROFIT~Thank You!

I'm optimistic. I'll give them until November before they croak.
