I have a potential bidder asking if I will ship to Russia. I usually only ship to the US but I am selling some records and it is for one of them. I know, in the past, when I have had records listed I ended up with international bidders and was fine with them but this is a first. Has anyone shipped to Russia and had problems???

I've shipped to Russia just two times and have had no problems. (Not a representative sample, I know!)

I shipped to Russia once. It took four months for the package to arrive. My buyer said it was because of Russian Customs. Perhaps the value ($250+) was a factor.

He had paid me in cash via Western Union at his request.

Is PayPal available in Russia?

Lucy

Lucy..I don't know if paypal is available in Russia. I have reponded to his email asking how he plans to pay if I accept his bid. I haven't heard back from him yet. Thanks to all for the help.

Commisar Ralphievitch howls" "Nyet!"

Little ole proletarian you can SEND rubles to da Ruskies, but ya can't RECEIVE moola from Moscow:

My furry Potemkin pal recommends accepting one of the following payment methods ONLY:

1) Good ole USA GREENBACKS.../or/

2) WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER.../or/

3) Case of Stoli.../or/

4) POUND of Caviar

ALL of the former S-Union & E.Europe is a hotbed of fraud -- I'd never accept a PayPal payment from any of those places...

But, YOUR risk tolerance level may be greater than mine...

If yer talking $20, then so what? If yer talking $200 or $2000, and you accept a PayPal payment from Kate-the-Great's Horse, donna here come whining when ya get screwed: "Oh! Boo-Hoo! PayPal is BIG MEANIES & stole my money! Boo-Hoo!"

I've sold and shipped to numerous ex-Soviet Bloc countries since 2001 for amounts ranging from US$20 - approx. $2300. All without incident (though customs clearance can be slow).

I never used PayPal or accepted credit card transactions for obvious risk management reasons. Rather I accepted bank transfer or deposit (several of my banks have Eastern European branches or accept Russian Rouble, Latvian Lat, Estonian Koruna, Lithuanian Litas, Polish Zloty, etc.), or online payments via MoneyBookers.

Lastly it helps if you can print Cyrillic characters on the address label (except the country name which should be in English) - it speeds delivery time in the destination country.
