it looks like teak and Danish Modern. I wonder if the HM is for
"HM Queen Margrethe 2. of Denmark."

Hey Shagmidmod, hold on to your hat, I actually walked away from an original Eames/Miller lounge chair a few weeks ago.

Leather was fair for its age but the base plywood was messed up on the underside of the seat where the metal support had busted through. I was not in the mood for a project. Seller was only asking $25. I keep thinking about that chair but I was SO not in the mood to lug it home or try to pack it for shipping.

I really don't know for sure and am not familiar with all of the names of Danish Designers but when I looked at this it said "Herman Miller" to me.

I have no idea whether he was a Danish designer or not!

Maybe it is just time I went to bed.

I don't think Herman Miller worked in Denmark.

Shag - why not post a photo of the piece itself - some Danish designers can be determined that way?

otteropp, my first guess was Herman Miller too but I could not find any references to them having a Denmark production facility.

LtRay...that came to me (not in a vision) as I was preparing to go to bed so I didn't research.
This morning I googled the name and was surprised that I had even come up with the name of a furniture maker however I see you are right. There doesn't seem to have been any reference to Denmark.

Herman Miller is an American furniture manufacturing company based out of Zeeland, Michigan. Herman was the brother of Howard Miller, the famous clock manufacturer. Herman Miller manufacturered furniture for Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, and other award winning designers.

If I was to guess, the "M" is for "mobelfabrik" which in English means "manufacturer".

The actual piece of furniture is a teak side or night table with a drawer. I have two, but only one has the mark. Oddly enough, both are mirror images of each other, with the exception of the dimensions. The one with the mark is about an inch taller and about 2 inches deeper.

If I can get the manufacturer I can often get the designer and vice-versa. I just haven't seen it anywhere and have searched several catalogs for the initials HM and MH.

I should also add that in Europe, Vitra is often the manufacturer for the Eames, Nelson items, as there is no Herman Miller in that region of the world.
