You know when some buyers say, I didn't bid on your item my 5yr old son place the bid. Well I let my 5 yr old grandson look at Starwar Mini-figures on ebay and I let him save to my watch list the ones he likes.

Well today I get an invoice from the seller asking me to pay. But I never got an email from Ebay saying I just bought this item.

I searched and saw that there was a bid placed with my ID so I guess my grandson did that and thought he was saving it to my watch list but instead he placed a bid and bought the figure.

He has been saving lots of Starwar mini-figures to my watch list for a long time but this was the first time he purchased one with a BIN click.

So now I see how easy it can happen, I didn't show him how to place a bid I just showed him how to save it to my watch list. I don't even think he knows that he bought the minifigure.

Well I got away cheap this time it was only 9.99 so I paid.

I guess he can't search ebay anymore for Starwar figures, it might become to costly for me...lol

So he knew your password? He couldn't have bid without that.

once i'm signed into ebay he don't need to know my password and I was signed in so maybe that was my mistake? I should have just opened ebay without being signed in I guess?

I just didn't think he would know how to place a bid, I just taught him how to save to my watch list

amber - If she was already signed in he didn't need to know her password. As long as I don't close my browser or sign off, you can get on my account from my computer. I'm the only one who uses it so I don't sign off until the evening when I shut down.

I didn't realize that. I find that every time I go to do something on eBay, they ask for my password, even to go on the community board.

Amber - There's a box you can click that says to keep you signed on.

Yes, I always click on that, but when I go to a buy, sell, community, seller account etc, they ask for my password again.

Toni,

Once you're signed out he can browse and put items on a guest watchlist.

He can put up to 10 items on a guest watchlist. Way safer.

Thanks Fluffy for that information. All this time I didn't know that.

So tonight I let him search and I didn't have to worry. I really got away cheap since he opens Starwar items that are going for over 100.00...lol

But what was surprising to me was that Ebay never sent me an invoice saying that I purchased an item. 2 days have passed and I got an invoice from the seller asking me to pay, if he didn't send me the invoice I would not have known I bought this mini-figure.

As others have noted, email from both eBay and PayPal has been sporadic (in some cases non-existent) the last couple of months.

Which is strange. Email doesn't cost anything to send. I'm wondering if it's just broken and no one in eBay's engineering dept cares enough to fix it.

I used to get a PayPal email every time an order came in on one of my websites, but no more.

My youngest sister Betsy's cat (not pixiamom) bid on and won a diamond engagement ring in an eBay live auction she had up (she was waiting for a piece she wanted to go up) a few years ago. Her Maine Coon "Computer Kitty" walked on the keyboard while she was dusting her display shelf behind the computer, and when she looked at the screen, discovered she was the proud owner of an expensive but butt-ugly gaudy diamond ring. She immediately emailed the seller who graciously let her out of the deal.

Edited to add: The cat is polydactyl (a couple of toes too many) and the final price was well below market value (seller was probably happy to be out of the deal).
