Ebay warns us of dire consequences if we sell off eBay but does it provide a vehicle for a seller to offer an item to a single buyer at an agreed upon price? I can't find one, so I ended up listing the item as a 7-day auction to ensure the person I listed it for will get time to bid. Very clumsy and I'll be very disappointed if someone else wins the auction.

List in your store as a store item - only 3 cents. Send the item number to the buyer.

Having written that, I would never do it. Why didn't you just send a PayPal invoice?

Sometimes we have to do it! Lordy, I agree with Bill here.

Bill, the store items are cheaper to list but have a higher fvf. I've billed the buyer directly and skipped listing through eBay once at buyer's request, had immediate remorse of why I would risk my livelihood for a single sale - visions of eBay whimsically ending all my listings and Fluff's on site protest floating in my mind.

I usually just send a PayPal invoice. If I suspect the buyer is someone who would report the transaction to ebay, I list the item as an 3 day auction with a BIN. They either buy it or they don't. As much as I might want the sale, I do not want it badly enough to worry about for 7 days.

As for store listing versus auction, the small diffence in FVF is not worth losing sleep over. You have already lost that much in time value by processing a special order. Heck, your mental health is worth more than a few pennies or $$.

Pixia I understand that you have a lot invested in ebay but I personally refuse to live in fear of them. It is past time to develop some alternative selling venues so when ebay finally finishes cutting their own throat, they do not take you down with them.

I just relist and send the item number to the buyer. I used to list at auction with a BIN 5 cents higher but now that eBay requires a 10% higher BIN, I list as FP or store item. Yesterday I really took a short cut for the new listing: "Lot of 2 Postcard Item XXXXXXXXXX and Item XXXXXXXXXXX". I doubt that anyone else will bid on an item listed like that.

A good reason to have an off site store. When I get those kind of requests I tell them that I can't sell an eBay item off eBay. Then I let them know that they most likely can find the same item in my vendio or ecrater store. And they can if I am fast enough.

You can sell off ebay! Just don't list the item!

Tell them that you will listed it when it's a good time for both of you. As soon as it is listed - send them the number - tell them to bid and you will end it with them as the winner.
Also can't you do a private listing with pre-approved bidders?

good point Neglus. I forgot to mention that when I do a special listing I do not put any keywords in the listing title. Usually just use a title such as " listing for gwd". Using the buyers initials instead of their ebay id or name helps protect their privacy.

To deter other bidders, I also keep the item detail as vague as possible.
