Do you buy dvd on Ebay from Asian sellers?
I was at a dvd store in Hong Kong, they have movies such as AVANTAR,BOOK OF ELI,WOLFMAN,and what is the latest Leonardo DiCaprio horror movie ? all for 35 HK dollars (under 5 us dollars)each.
I found a 4 disc deal of Werner Herzog collection of 20 movies for US 13 dollars??
Is anyone watching,does anyone care?

Our laws and enforcement officers try to prevent knockoffs from being imported or manufactured in the USA. With the 1000's of different products on the list its like trying to bail the water out of the great lakes with a bucket.
I have read that our diplomats are trying to get countries to do more enforcement. But, we are dealing with countries where the manufacture and distribution of knockoff dvd's and other products may not violate any of their laws.

Who knows perhaps the movie moguls are getting a couple bucks for every bootleg DVD sold as well as the legit ones.

hmmm... i always go into those "what it costs us" with caution. most of the time those numbers are overinflated estimates by the industry that it would affect. not to say it isn't wrong... but two wrongs don't make it right either.

case in point... napster. the music industry went nuts about napster going as far as suing many users to teach us all a lesson.

Lars Ulrich of Metallica blasted people for using Napster, yet back in the 80's I clearly remember his story about how the band formed. He would make tapes of the lead singers albums of obscure European bands. He claimed it was different because people could now transfer songs 100x faster than he could record a tape. Hypocrite.

Just because technology has advanced doesn't make it right now... or back then when it took him 60 minutes to record an album vs. 2 minutes download time.

The movie and music industry for many many decades have taken advantage of consumers. We have always been willing to accept their overpriced entertainment. With the digital age, technology has made the general consumer virtual experts in the field of just about anything. Everyone and their mother is a photographer or a musician now. We can edit movies, record and edit music all from our desktop. Digital has lowered the bar and as technology advances, the costs continue to go down making it more affordable for the consumer to participate. The movie and music industry simply cannot keep up with the technology any longer. Look what YouTube has done for video as a perfect example.

These two industries want it all for themselves, and because of their tactics they are shooting themselves in the foot. Instead of focusing on technology and staying ahead of the game, they have focused their attention on how they can sue the next guy for anything and everything.
