Hi, all: I had a large box, weight under 5#, to ship today. USPS wanted $49 (CA to FL); UPS wanted $17+, so of course I used UPS. Now I see that I can enable UPS shipping on my auction listing page. Will this shut out USPS shipping for my buyers, or is it an addition to shipping options?

I've not made much use of UPS in the past because we had no office here, but now, in our little mountain town, we do have an office where there are people who can help me out with stuff. I'm sold, now, on UPS!

Check both UPS and USPS, enter the weight - shipping for both items will display. Buyer can choose the method of shipment.

Thanks, Bill. I guess I just didn't realize until today what a disparity there can be in shipping charges. I am a Happy Camper.

Question-
I seldom use UPS,if I take a package to a mail drop off place,is there a surcharge?
The mail drop off place in my neighborhood wants one dollar if we just leave the package prepaid/stamped.

If you decide to become a regular UPS user, I highly recommend calling UPS and talking to them about getting discounts. You can save up to 20% off the standard rate, and possibly even more (I am talking more than the eBay discount).

I don't use UPS any longer. I had problems with them many years ago when it came time to file a claim that was clearly their fault. Basically, I shipped a guitar to a customer in Connecticut. The guitar was secured in a hardshell case within a box with packing peanuts. UPS damaged the box, peanuts spilled out. They left the guitar on the customers porch in 10 degree weather even though I had requested a signature. The customer stated he arrived home at 8pm that evening, meaning it was outside for at least 8 hours. The bridge cracked. UPS returned the guitar to me for them to inspect it. The sent someone to my work. They denied the claim. I appealed, UPS denied the claim again. Both times they claimed it was insufficiently packed... huh? The guitar was in a HARDSHELL case within a box. The damage was caused by the cold weather, not from inadequate packing. So I requested an arbitrator. Finally, someone saw the legitimacy of my claim. UPS had to pay for the repair and to return the guitar to the buyer who was very happy.

Some people like UPS, I prefer Fed Ex. Whenever I have had an issue with FE, they have always been willing to fix it with no problems.

I prefer FedEx too. They are cheaper than UPS and I can preprint my shipping label and just drop it off at a pak and rap store. They provide shipping labels, etc.

I use UPS for large items but I fully understand that if you don't pack it to survive a bomb - it will be damaged.
I like the fact that they pick up even for ground (at a fee of course) or I can drop it off 3 blocks away for free.
I wish FedEx was closer or picked up for ground as I would love to use them instead.

Years ago I heard UPS no longer accept antique musical instruments!
