I found a battery operated Pan Am plane at a sale Saturday. It's tin and battery operated.
The man I got it from wasn't planning to sell it - but he did. He had all kinds of old tin toy - train and cars. He said they were all his when he was a boy and he was now in his 80's. This was the only plane he had so I'm not sure if he was including that as well.
I believe the plane is from the 40's but I don't know for sure. If I post a photo, could anyone help me.
It is marked Made in Japan but no maker's mark that we have found so far.

I think made in Japan suggests it was imported after ww2. Go back and buy the rest!!!

I'm 90 miles from any book stores.

alldings, he wasn't selling any of them or I would have got them all. I did leave him my phone number in case he changes his mind.

Do a search on ebay for "Vintage Pan Am Battery Operated Toy Airplanes" there are several perhaps one will look like the one you bought.

I did do a search and didn't see anything just like it. I googled 1940's Pan AM passenger planes and one image did look a lot like mine.

That's a good idea Merrie. I may just do that. We used to have all kinds of experts on this board - where did they all go???

Is what came up when I posted some smiley emoticons from my Ipad. Don't know why they came up that way on here.

Have you tested it to see if it works? If not that reduces what ever value it might have a lot. I typed (vintage tin toy Japanese pan am planes) into yahoo and got a bunch of photos maybe one looks like yours.
