Just went to the USPS site to get a quote for 2 heavy bowls and saw something new, a fee of $10.95 if you mark the item FRAGILE, even if it is priority. I spoke to Ebay rep to tell him the shipping quotes are now incorrect and he said ."Well the insurance should cover it!!" Not if it breaks and the PO sees that it is fragile and not marked that way or pad for that way.
Is there nothing easy any more??
I am giving my seller the option to cancel since the postage will be much higher and I am not eating it.

Spoke to my local PO person & she said that the $10.95 was only for special handling. The website does not say that, so confusing!

Is the 10.95 considered insurance?,if so,how much is the coverage?
Or it is part of the shipping postage cost?

mpcomp:, nope it is not insurance. It is special handling. If you are sending something valuable and it is fragile and you click that box on the USPS webpage, it is an addition $10.95. The you add insurance if you want it.
My local PO people told me to email USPS, because the page is very confusing. Look it up for yourself.

mpcomp: the problem is, it really doesn't say "Special Handling" that is where the confusion lies. It has boxes for live animals, etc, but never says special handling. That is why my local PO person said it was very misleading and the I should write the PO about it.

Leave it to the post office to start something new and not tell their own employees.
UPS does something like this as well. If you reinforce the box with wood strips on the outside - they call it crating it and charge you an extra fee. So UPS is actually charging you to make it UPS proof. Got to love it.

Yes I do that as well with edge protectors - they are great. My husband like to frame from the outside with wood. The package would survive a hurricane!!! Which helps when shipping UPS.
