I am sure you all know that the USPS will increase postal rates on January 17th.

I have been shipping with USPS Flat Rate Priority Mail which will have a large cost increase. I still have not decided what to do.

Further, there will also be a large increase in international mail cost, plus USPS International Express Mail flat rate boxes will be discontinued.

What are you going to do?

As for overseas shipping, those items have high markup so I will ship the same method and use some of that item proceed to buy insurance.
We shall see how it works out
I dont ship express, may be USPS priority intl

Will eBay's calculator update automatically for this change?

yes,Ebay has already updated the rates.
If you join XNPRESS as a member, you get dhl discount, the last time I talked to them, their shipping to UK is a little more than USPS priority small box,but it is trackable and signed for ,that was before the USPS rate increase,so go to its website and check out the latest
But shipping to Eastern Europe for the same package would cost over $50.
There is no way to ship cheap overseas with any carrier, the only way I can think of is for the buyers to find someone or some service which will bundle the packages together and ship to that country and have a local carrier separate them and ship them cheap locally.
For Example,an outfit in Brownvill,Texas will drive across the bridge into Mexico with your packages, clear customs and hand them over to a local shipper but the catch is everything must pay Mexican customs !
But yout get tracking and signature which USPS priority to Mexico does not offer.

One way a seller can save some money is the FVF Ebay charges on shipping.
Intl shipping FVF is based on domestic shipping FVF,so if you offer free shipping domestic, then your FVF for overseas and domestic shipping would be zero.
Lets say-
I sell many 2 ounces small item for $33 with domestic shipping $0
For the same item, I charge $33 plus intl shipping of 11.95.
My actual shipping cost is $10.91,but I pay no FVF on that $11 .95 since FVF is based on domestic shipping which is zero .
The difference between 11.95 and 10.91 allow me to pay for packing material and may be insurance if needed.
If you are a toprated seller enjoying a 20% discount on FVF,it gets even better.
Do your own math and see if it works for you.
Of course if the local buyer wants to return item ,you end up losing your original shipping since you never charge her shipping

Switching to first class from USPS priority may work with Canada and Western Europe but not sure when it comes to Mexico,SE Asia, esp China and Eastern Europe and Italy.
I have a first class package going to Cambodia last year Novemeber 28 and buyer claimed he does not have it,fortunatley it is insured with third party insurer.

If they updated - they didn't do a very good job. I just did 2 1st class labels and they charged my customer $2.54 and I had to pay $2.60. That's with my discount - I used have to pay 25 or 35 cent less after my discount which I used to pay for the envelope and box (or most of it). Guess I have to eat the packing materials now as well.

On Ebay they charge me $2.60 but on Etsy,I only paid $2.54.
But same item going overseas,Ebay charges me $10.91 while Etsy charges me $12.83.
