It all started w/an ink cartridge.
I go to print something. Get the "cartridge empty" note. Refill cartridge - printer won't print. Email Epson. Post on board.
Decide to uninstall/reinstall printer to see if that will make the printer "think" the cartridge is new rather than a refill.
Not only does that not work, but somehow in the process of doing that, when I reboot my computer, I start getting error messages about my scanner. I uninstall my printer and my scanner.
I go to reinstall my scanner, and the computer isn't reading the cd. Keeps telling me to put it in. Call Dell tech support.
They teach me how to do a "system restore." First date I pick (just a couple of days ago) won't work and I get the message - no changes were made since then. Huh? I just uninstalled my printer and scanner? Ok, I pick August 1. Now it works and the system restores, and the cds are being read properly.
But August 1 was before I installed my antivirus software, so now I'm getting a message that my subscription has run out. I do the online update. My virus definitions are updated, but I can no longer enable Auto-Protect. Email to Norton/Symantec.
The saga continues, but you get the idea. I sit here one short day later w/no virus protection (I think), no scanner (on a day when I do banking so I want to scan checks before I deposit them, but that's ok) and no printer on this computer.
Total calls to Dell - 3. Emails to Epson and Norton - 2. Time I'll never get back - 5-6 hours.
At this point, I'm ready to save everything I need to floppy, stick the computer in a box and tell Dell to stick it. Send printer back to Epson, also with a note about putting it in a place where the sun never shines. Set up my 5 year old Compaq and wait 6 months and start all over.

Ouch!!!...
So sorry, Sadie! Hope you get it all back on it's feet...
I had heard that the refill thingy can be iffy...but was never given in-depth explanations...Now I see why!
I can see that the shortest way from A to B is not necessarily the "shortcut"... Gosh Shosh

Boy do I nkow that story all too well. Just change Dell to Gateway and it could be my story.
I never did figue out just what the problem was. My husband finally figured it out and fixed it all. Although ever since then, my picture preview (in my folder where I keep all of my ebay item pics) isn't working. Usually when I pick "view (folder) as web page" I can just click on the pic and see it off to the side. Now I have to open my photo program to see my pics.
But everything else is working, so I won't complain to loudly!
