I guess I should have refused one place that asked a lot of questions.

I applied for a job and they gave me a big long general intelligence test of pages and pages that asked questions about everything from German composers to celestial mechanics all of which had nothing to do with the job and after I had finished it the H.R. person looked at me funny and said we have never had anyone finish this in the time given. I sat and waited and pretty soon a suit came down went in the fellows office and then in another half hour or so another suit came in but this fellow had about a $800 suit and a $60 haircut. He stayed about 10 minutes and left and they called me in.
He said they had graded the test and called the testing company that sells them the test to verify it and I had done very well on the test. They said you are undoubtedly aware you are smart aren't you? I said yes I feel I am smart - but I also think standardized tests are a very limited tool and I know lots of smart people that are not especially good test takers for various reasons.
Well they said - be that as it may be - you tested in the 99.9th percentile and we feel you would not be happy working here and none of us would feel comfortable supervising you.
So they thanked me for coming by and gave me the boot out the door.
That is a weird sort of discrimination.
I just wanted to run a Bridgeport for them not marry the owner's daughter. They were in walking distance of my house. They pay about
$800 a week and you can forget about the place when you go home at night and not worry about anything but what is on your bench that day. If they can you - well that's why I have wheels on the bottom of my tool box. Do they want dumb people?

Gravid, I have heard the same thing from prospective employers. They phrased it as "we feel you wouldn't be satisfied here because you are OVER qualified". Duh. Does that mean they want UNDER qualified people to represent them? Guess so.

I think it means they want drones for the position. Not too dumb but not too smart.
