  • What are Item Specifics?
    Item Specifics are additional details about your item that you provide when you create your listing for eBay. These details can can then be used by eBay buyers to search more precisely for items of interest. Item Specifics are not available for other auction sites such as Yahoo! or Amazon.

    Item Specifics are only required in certain regulated categories, such as Event Tickets.

  • Why do I not see any Item Specifics in my Create Listing page?
    Not all eBay categories currently support Item Specifics. If the category you chose for your item does support Item Specifics, the appropriate input fields will be presented within your "Create Listing" page, just below the Templates section.

  • Where and how do Item Specifics appear in my listing?
    eBay displays your Item Specifics information in a light-blue section at the top of your Item Description. The format and layout of this section is completely determined by eBay, using the Item Specifics information that you provide when creating your listing.

    You can get a general preview of how Item Specifics look with your listing by using "Quick Preview" or "eBay Preview" when you create your listing. Note that the actual format and layout of this section may vary when your listing is live on eBay (see "What is the current list of known limitations with Item Specifics?" below).

  • I chose "Other" for one of my Item Specifics, what happens next?
    Some Item Specifics fields have a choice of "Other" in their drop-down list. However, eBay does not yet support text input for all fields where "Other" is an available choice. If eBay accepts text input for "Other" in a particular field, you will see a new text box appear to the right of the drop-down list, where you can enter in the specific information about your item.

  • How do Item Specifics work with two categories?
    Not all categories have Item Specifics. Currently, eBay only supports providing Item Specifics in one category: if your main category has Item Specifics, these fields will be displayed in your "Create Listing" page; if your main category does not have Item Specifics, but your second category does support them, then the second category's Item Specifics will be shown.

  • What launch or preview errors are associated with Item Specifics?
    Preview or launch errors related to Item Specifics will generally have 4-digit error codes starting with "5". Item Specifics errors may be caused by any of the following:

    • Not filling in required Item Specifics fields.
    • Providing invalid information for Item Specifics. The information provided may be too long or a selected option is no longer valid.
    • From time to time, eBay may make changes to the sets of Item Specifics in various categories, or may eliminate entire categories altogether after Item Specifics have been launched in those categories. Items edited using the old Item Specifics set or old categories, and scheduled to launch after these Item Specifics or categories have been updated, fail to launch with an error message about invalid values. Please check the list of recent updates to determine if there has been a change in your item's categories.

  • What is the current list of recent changes in Item Specifics?
    As of June 19, eBay added Item Specifics fields to the following categories: "Women's Dresses"; "Pantyhose, Stockings"; "Women's Sweaters"; "Women's Outerwear"; "Women's Swimwear"; "Women's Skirts"; "Women's Jeans"; "Women's Shoes"; "Women's Shirts, Tops"; "Handbags, Bags"; "Wigs, Extensions"; "Women's Panties"; "Wedding Dresses"; "Bras, Bra Sets"; "Women's Suits, Jackets & Outfits"; "Women's Pants, Shorts"; "Women's Sleepwear".

    As of May 29, eBay added Item Specifics fields to the sub-categories under "Movies & Television" > "Video, Film".

    If you have items scheduled to launch in any of these categories, you may wish to update your item listings to use these revised Item Specifics fields.

  • I'm selling in the Event Tickets category, why am I not able to type in anything for "Face Value"?
    The "Face Value" field is a piece of Item Specifics information that is only required for certain States (such as Connecticut and Kentucky). If your "Venue State/Province" does not require "Face Value", eBay will not accept any input in the "Face Value" field, so that text box is disabled for input.
