I am new on this but it seems that the rules that govern ebay should strive to achieve the same justice as the judicial system.
If anyone can post negative feedback without substanceating it, then they should be liable to punishment. The problem for ebay or any other auctioneers is they would need a domestic mini-justice department to deal with this activity. Whatever the results, with impunity, negative feedback will be a major problem if something is not done about it.

As Khb00 said, I am strictly a buyer. My mother told me about auctionwatch.com and have learned alot from these boards.

I have purchased numerous items from eBay and should have a 30 rating but sellers that don't leave feedback upset me. I send emails when I receive notice I've won, I send email when I mail the MO, and send email when I get the item. The second to last person I bought from - no feedback even though I gushed in email how much the item was as posted and I loved it. I have a list of sellers I won't buy from now just because they won't post anything under feedback.

I won't post negative feedback on them though, heard too many horror stories!

Just to toss in my 2 cents.

I have to agree with the centament here. Our company even discussed this issue. Should we post a negative feedback on a deadbeat to flag them for other sellers and take a chance at taking a hit from them, or let it slide?
We chose to flag the deadbeat. They usually have a low feedback in the first place and it seems that once one neg gets left other sellers that have been screwed, roll in and finish the deadbeat off. If you are squeemish about leaving negs, eBay has the non-paying bidder complaint form. Despite the length of time to do it, you get your money back, you flag the deadbeat in eBay's system, and the 4 strikes and your banned for life feature is nice.

Hi to all. Re Neg FB. I've been on ebay, yahoo and a couple of other auctions for over 2 years now and I've always tried to find a way to justifibly leave something other than neg FB, and I've had many excuses why a payment couldn't be made (deaths in the family, motor in a truck had to be replaced, wife spent the money on something else) however when I get no response, no payment from a winning bidder, bad check, you can be damn sure I will leave Neg FB. Other sellers or buyers for that matter should be made aware when problems exist with community members. If I get retalitatory FB I just have to accept that and know what I did was right in that situation.
Good Luck to all!

Hi !!! THANKS FOR THE OPPURTUNITY TO VOICE INFORMATION TO OTHER USERS.I HAVE HAD TEH MISFORTUNE OF BEING INVOLVED IN A SITUATION,WITH SEVERAL OF THE ABOVE COMPLAINTS ALL IN ONE. I HAVE ONE BLEMISH ON MY eBay FEEDBACK, IT WAS FROM A 6 YEAR OLD BOY PLAYING WITH HIS FATHERS COMPUTER. HE BID ON AND WON AN ITEM, HE THEN RESPONDED TO NOTICE OF WINNING BID, THEN KEPT ASKING FOR THE INFO AGAIN AND AGAIN. THEN STOPPED ALL TOGETHER. THEN HE LEF6T ME NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. SO I DID THE SAME. THEN TURNED IT OVER TO eBay, AND SAFEHARBOR, NO HELP. FINALLY HIS FATHER RESPONDED, AND SAID HE WAS SORRY, AND WOULD SEND PAYMENT, WHICH HE DID, AND eBay FINALLY PERMANENTLY REMOVED HIM, BUT ONLY AFTER I HAD CONTACTED THE OTHER 25 PLUS MEMBERS WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HIM. BUT THEY ONLY WILL TAKE ACTION IF YOU STAY ON IT.AFTER THEY SUSPENDED HIM, THE NEGATIVE DID CHANGE TO A NEUTRAL, BUT THE SAME WILL OCCUR IF IT WAS A POSITIVE AND THE MEMBER LEAVING IT BECOMES NO LONGER A REGISTERED USER. SOMEHOW THIS DOES NOT SEEM FAIR ? eBay SEEMS TO BE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT GAINING NEW MEMBERS, BUT NOT MUCH IN KEEPING THEM ,OR KEEPING THEM HAPPY, BUYERS OR SELLERS. I AM BOTH.FOR AWHILE I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT MY FEEDBACK FROM MY TRADING PARTNERS, BUT NOW I HAVE CHOSEN TO LEAVE IT FOR EVERY BUYER, AS SOON AS I RECEIVE THEIR PAYMENT, AND GREATLY APPRECIATE THEIRS IN RETURN, MOST OF THE TIME I DO RECEIVE IT. IF NOT TEHN THATS THE WAY IT IS. BUT AS A BUYER, I WILL NOT LEAVE ANY IF THE SELLER WHOM I BOUGHT FROM DOES NOT. WHICH IS THE FAIREST WAY I KNOW.THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ MY COMMENTS, AND I WILL APPRECIATE ANY RESPONSES, WHETHER YOU AGREE OR DIS-AGREE. ALSO THANK YOU TO AW FOR PROVIDING A PLACE TO SPEAK OUR MINDS !

I was in the same situation (as a seller)with a lack of feedback after leaving feedback. My wife started placeing nice thank you cards in the boxes. The card reads "Thank you for your business and please leave appropriate feedback" , after this 75% have left feedback compared to 30%. Hope this helps

I have just started to sell on eBay but I have been helping my friend for a few months now. For buyers who dont leave feedback after you send them the item I have a solution that will work probably 70-80% of the time. When you ship them the item include a slip of paper stating that you had a pleasent transaction and that you left feedback for them and would appreciate if you left some for you. If your shipping to a person new at eBay it wouldn't be a bad idea to include instructions on how to leave feedback. I hope this helps.

I have been selling for a while- I don't leave negs and as a result I have never recieved one; if the person doesn't pay forget about it- its a number game, it's going to happen often. Would you rather have your own clean slate, or would you rather swat at the endless stream of non-paying bidders. Gratuitously leave positive feedback for the deadbeat, be generous, don't be anal. I hate chronic deadbeats with a passion don't get me wrong, but when it comes to putting them out of their reputable misery, I leave that to the other sellers.

I am new to ebay, and I have read through the last few months of statements on this board about negative feedback. I have sold only one item but have bought 6 just rescently. I find it interesting that all the sellers here are so worried about the recieving of feedback. As a buyer the number of feedbacks is NOT what is important to me, but the absence of negative feedback is. No feedback is in itself good feedback. Lets face it someone that is not happy as a buyer is going to absolutely make sure it is known! All buyers I think know this. I do understand the concern with negative feedback, and rightly so in a sense. But I also think that we have to realize you cannot please all the people all the time. There is human errors that will be made. I made an error in a transaction as a buyer and just wrote the guy email today to let him know what happened. His response was very kind and understanding and I can assure you that it will go a long way in the way I take the time to give positive feedback to him. OUr deal was on a really low cost item and he was still descent towards me. I am sorry but as I see it buyers are NOT required to leave feedback, and sellers if they want to do business owe it to the buyer to do so. I do not think it is rude not to, even though I do it myself. I think it is a matter of good ole business practices. I take for granted when I go to a store that I am going to be treated well, and if I am not I will raise **&&, however I do not feel obligated to say a thing if things went well. I would think we assume they did. As for the idea of not accepting bids from new people, I sure wish I had a business in life that allowed me to limit my customers, to think we spend trillions of dollars in advertising to bring in new customers, and there are people that would elimenate me because I only have three feedbacks, and all positive. At that should I feel lucky the sellers that took my bids let me in??? I think it is obvious the whole country does not yet know about or use ebay, I am finding most of my friends have never heard of it or done it. In some peoples lifes it is all new!!! Let me make one more suggestion to all sellers, if you do not use paypal I think you should really consider this. I will not buy anything else that does not offer me this method of payment. It is the easiest way for me to pay my bill and as well the quickest and most effortless! I found myself having a hard time paying the two auctions that did not have this method and realized that I risked negative feedback due to this. I just figure there is no real good reason for someone to not have paypal offered. I think witht that option it makes for better chance of receiving payment quickly and therefore feedback too. It is hard to forget what feedback you have or have not done if you can do things quickly after the close of an auction!! I am able to respond by email, then I even IM someone that is aol and talk for a minute to let them know I am processing the payment, and I ask a couple of questions about the article that I am buying, I would not be buying something I have no interest in. And they like the contact and we have the temporary contact and it works out with feedback and processing. Remember the days when we went into a store and new the person behind the counter by the first name, well human contact cannot be over rated!!! Try it through IM. We need to remember the difference between the buyer and the seller, the buyer agreed to pay for something and when they do that is all that we have the right to actually expect from them, the rest is about the seller building a good customer relation with people that give up their hard earned cash. No news is Good News!!!!!!!So instead of focusing so much on if they are giving feedback, focus on customer service best you can and dont worry about those who do not talk, they are happy or they would have!!!
