Just finished watching him on A&E from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. Eastern and let me just say, Neil still RULES!!!

Definitely worth watching...he's got some new songs that are pretty good.

Any other fans out there who aren't sick of him even after 30 years?

I'm a middle of the road fan. Did see him in concert a few years back & have to say he really puts on a great show.

The "Live by Request" show last night was very entertaining. My DH loved it & he's big fan. Great concept...

I watched him live on the Today show last Friday. He performed in the middle of NYC!

It was great to see such young people enjoying his music as well as the grandmas!

Is he still alive? What is he, 100?

He "jumped the shark" with that sorry movie he made.

All downhill from there.

I went to the San Jose Arena yesterday to pick up tix to Barnum & Bailey's. It just so happened that tix were going on sale for Neil Diamond. Boy, talk about your geriatric crowd! Eeeeww!

What sorry movie did he make? I never heard about that.

Boy, for being a hundred though, he's still pretty good. And my kind of music has always been Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, etc., but I always thought Neil was alright. He seems like a nice guy, too.

edited to add: There were a lot of 15 year olds there with their Grandmothers twinsoft.

Twinsoft,

If you're lucky, one day you, too, will be part of the geriatric crowd. "ewwww!!!"

------

Neil did a remake of "The Jazz Singer".

His acting was bad, but the soundtrack was/is wonderful. I think it was the best-selling album of his career.

------

One year, my sister called from Chicago to say she had tickets to see Neil in concert and was I interested?

I was on the first flight available to Chicago.

You said it... B-A-D, stinkeroo, lousey, the worst!

LOL... alright, I am actually a tiny little bit of a "closet" Diamond fan.

(but he STILL sucked in that movie...LMAO)

LOL @ you guys!

There were a lot of 15 year olds there with their Grandmothers twinsoft.

You know, I actually heard that comment while in line. Funny, I didn't see any 15-year olds.

I don't mind Neil Diamond. I'm not really into the sequined jump-suit thing, but what the hey? I did hear a song of his once that I liked, 'don't know the title, it was kind of an old sailing song.

Anyway, I hope nobody at that concert tries to "shake their money-maker." Too many broken hips!

"geriatric crowd"???

I'm only 27 and a BIG fan! I don't think that I fit in that categorization, though...

A couple of years ago, my sister-in-law worked at a tv station and came over after work one day. She said, "I got these at work and since you like that Barry Manilow guy, I thought you might like these." She handed me two tickets to see Diamond in concert the next night! I had been trying to win tickets to see him all week. (Too poor to actually buy tickets then!) It was an awesome show! He was so energetic!

I have recorded the 'Live By Request' to watch. I did see VH1's 'Behind the Music' on him. It was great!

His remake of 'The Jazz Singer' might not have been a box office hit, but I like it! I own it on DVD.

I also just bought his newest CD. It has a lot of good music on it.

Maudlin. Neil Diamond songs are so maudlin, self absorbed. He was okay in the 60's. Downhill from there. At least Barry Manilow doesn't take himself so seriously. Euwww...

Neil ruled early on in his career. The Hot August Night live record was cool. His early songs were great. After that he sort of seemed to be targeting another audience. Jonathan Livingston Seagull and all that. He lost me then.

Maybe your eyesight's going, twinsoft.
They say it's the second thing to go.
I never saw Neil in any sequined jump suits, must be you're thinking of Tom Jones! (the memory goes first)

Oh no, you're getting old!!!! Eeewwww...

Helen,
As seems to be the case so often lately, I don't have a clue what you are talking about. The problem is, you don't seem to either.

You state,

<quote>

"As seems to be the case so often lately, I don't have a clue what you are talking about. The problem is, you don't seem to either."

<end quote>

That is insulting to tell me that I don't have a clue. As you can see, you started the thread about the song, "On the street Where You Live."
I just mentioned that in comparison, the music of Neil Diamond is probably not as maudlin as that of Andy Williams. It was just my opinion...That's all.

What a silly thing to argue about. I just thought that it was funny.

The thread that you started which featured that song is below, in case you don't remember it.

It's really no big deal and not an issue that you should insult me about in my opinion.

The topic is Neil Diamond. Some are fans and some are not. As usual, helen has to point out to someone the errors of their ways and when she gets a response to her buttinsky ways, she takes offense and calls it an insult.
