Ooops

My last remark was not intended for you, Smitty.

I am now exiting this thread. Too much togetherness is making my head spin.

I think he was singing the song from Disney's Snow White, zilvy. Or was that Cinderella? Whichever. If the shoe fits. (snicker, snort)

Enchanted, thank you for your disclaimer. For a second I was afraid you were telling me where I could kick it.

Well...anyway, I thought it was an interesting story. Strangely enough I don't find Donna O'Hara's suicide (or horrible manner thereof) the main thrust of the story. I certainly fail to see any humor in it. The car was what interested me the most. But to each his own. Carry on if it amuses you so.

To get back on topic:

Color me confused, but this Cobra...is it the same thing as one of those mustang Cobra's??? I gave one away many years ago, because it didnt run and I didnt want to fiddle with it (it was left behind at a house I rented, and the landlord told me to have it hauled off if I didnt want it..which is what I did).

Hepburn - I thought of the Ford Mustang Cobra when I first read the article - but it stated it was a Maverick Cobra - and only 6 were made

So if you had one of those, boy did you haul off a boatload of $.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Mustang Cobra is also sought after. Especially the high-performance 8 cylinder models.

If memory serves me, there was also a "Shelby" mustang issued in the 60's. I remember the word Shelby written across the back.

I hate to show my age, but does anyone else remember some of the factory muscle cars from the 60's like the "Super Bee" that had a huge spoiler on the back and came in bright colors and racing stripes ?

No, it's not a 'mustang'. It's a Cobra that was built in a 2x2 configuration for the LeMans type endurance races. It had a top on what was the most awesome piece of racecar on the tracks. They looked more like Ferrarri coupes of the 60's than American products. Carrol Shelby knocked the European car builders for a loop with it, but eventually they got the car disqualified for some technicality. The open version of the car was a Corvette killer in class A modified racing in this country for three years. The Ford move to the 427 engine stopped most racing for the cars and it became a market goodie that died in a year or two.

Reamond, the Shelby Mustangs were a creation of his at first and they were a pretty winning car in their own right. The GT 350 with the 289 engine was racebred and their numbers were not much more than enough to allow them to compete as production cars, but the GT 500 and the rest of the uses of the name were bastardized into market gimmicks. It went on until the ridiculous 1974-76 Mustang Cobra II, a lame car with a pinto engine. I think Ford still trades on the Cobra name.
