If you don't like this thread or the negatives around here: Don't Read it. That's simple enough.

No one here is saying Bidville is perfect or near perfect. far from it. However, I asked dimview what he wanted and he pretty much stated he wants Bidville to be like eBay and Yahoo! To me that's such a silly desire and pretty much describes a person who doesn't really know what they want. If you want Bidville to be like Yahoo or Ebay... just go back to eBay or Yahoo. Problem solved. The thing dimview really wants is: he want it to be like Yahoo and eBay while also being FREE! That's the key thing here. Sorry... it doesn't work that way.

I'm NOT going to talk about Dimview's invalid numbers because it's clear he doesn't really understand what he's talking about. If the economy is growing at 3.5% instead of 2.9%, people start worrying about inflation. They want Greenspan to tighten up the interest rates. It's only a difference of 0.06%... or more importantly less than a 20% difference. Yet here's dimview's numbers: 75-700% error depending on his mood. No big deal right? Whatever.

The Bidville Prez released his numbers. These numbers are probably very close to Yahoo's (pre Fee). That's pretty good considering that yahoo had the luxury of being the #1 portal. Also, factor in the fact that those numbers are from the SLOWEST time of the year (summer). In addition, if you feature items (items WORTH featuring) you're going to get some good sales.

relayone,
not to be sarcastic, but why don't you ask the people that buy the stuff?

Everyone,
I think it should be obvious to most that there is a big difference between site where you pay a listing fee, and a free site, even one with an elective membership plan like Bidville.

Of course a seller is only going to list items that are sure to sell at the pay site. would you pay to list something unless you thought it would sell quickly on ebay? I doubt it. Does that mean there is no market for the other stuff? Absolutely not. There is a market. and it is getting stronger, though it does seem fractionalized at this point in time due to the numerous alternative sites that are in existance, and still popping up on a regular basis.

Between this and the so called inventory warehousing which is inevitable, it is not reasonable to expect a sell thru rate like on the pay sites, or even close to it.

Dimview, a question. What happens to all of your figures when you consider sales versus new listings as a sell thru rate?

MY point on that being I am GUESSING that sell thru versus new listings would represent a more substantial piece of the pie when compared against the same factors at the pay sites.

I suggest you take another look at

http://www.bidville.com/bidville_stats.htm

Then let us know why there is no consideration given to auction durations in the Bidville statistics, you know, the 30-day ones you were so keen to point out in my estimations. And why, in fact, are
"total, gallery, and featured auctions reported are from the last day in the Period" rather than an average for the week. And shouldn't Bidville be able to identify reserve auctions ending with bids but not a sale because the reserve was not met.

Since you found my estimated sell-through rate so unacceptable, perhaps you'd explain why you're so giggly about the reported sell-through rate despite these similar assumptions.

I find the Bidville numbers to be acceptable, but wonder why you are conveniently silent on these "errors" now.

MAN! The BidVille Bashers are active when we do well! I like to think of all these threads as an indication that the $1-Sale was a complete SUCCESS!

I have been on auctionwatch for about three years now, which I haven't used this site for over a year now, and have forgotten my passwords. Which isn't important at all. After sitting her a mere 10 minutes and scanning these posting from numerously people, I just have one thing to say. "Grown up and get a life"
