From an email I received tonight, this isn't the first bounty he's put out on others. This is the first I've actually witnessed and it totally turned me totally and completely off.

I don't even want to be associated with a site that exhibits this type of behavior.

Negatives are removed at the person's insistence. One seller recently said she/he had a life outside of BidBay and if the bidder didn't understand that, too bad. Well, if you're going to sell something, you better well make the auction a part of your life or you will wind up with negative feedback, which this seller did. (Using "you" as a generalization here).

The chat boards are beyond belief. Certain folks can post anything they want to, but not others. Yes, I was banned from chat for posting my opinion on a subject. I don't care to go back for reasons of my own. I was told by the CEO to call him and he would reinstate me. I think not. Censorship is one thing, but he preaches freedom of speech, yet he doesn't practice what he preaches on everyone.

Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

MtnMama,
Thanks for your comments. I appreciate the feedback. Like I said this is my first auction site, so I can't compare it to others. Just what I'm used to. I haven't been making as many crafts as I am now. I am really impressed.
Yes, I have a lot of little items too. I'm in the process of getting more pictures for my crafts. I won't list them without pictures. I am learning html with help of others at Bidbay to spice up my auctions. I do try and take time with them, not just list as many as possible.
My son has had me list his pokemon cards. When they sell he gets to buy the ones he wants. I've sold a lot of them.
As for what I have sold right now. Sundays are the days most of my auctions close. Last weekend I sold over 21 items. This weekend I sold 10.
In 2 months I have sold $250 worth of products. That may not be much for most here. But for me as a part time job, from home, no babysitting. I'm thrilled. Compared to craft fairs and shops, this is awesome.
I have sold some in BBB, but that's what got me selling. I put a few there and now I'm selling more in cash than ever before.
Yes, the restriction with the auction sites is the credit card. But I am registered with Paypal and exchangepath and can use my checking to pay for my auctions that I win. So far though I haven't spent a penny of my own money. I've gone on a shopping spree and have gathered plenty of quality christmas presents.
Like I said I can't compare, but I can't complain. Bidbay is keeping me busy with sales and happy.
Thanks again, Mtnmama for your feedback, I do appreciate it.

Tami,

Not a bad profit for homemade items, I agree.
I've done the same myself.

The credit card issue on eBay is fairly new. It's just to verify sellers, so that they can weed out (supposedly) fraudulent ones. I don't see how that works, but they think it does. As far as that goes, you can also get verified, instead of using a credit card. I think it costs $5. There's a form to fill out and then if you have the information they're looking for, they give you a little icon in your feedback file that says "verified". No credit card needed. I used to pay by check, way back when I first started, because I refused to give anyone cc information, but that got too complicated, as there's a listing limit when you do that. So, I gave in, and never had a problem.

Good luck to you on BidBay.

Mtnmama,
I'm sorry to hear what happened. I thought I missed you around there.
I am registered with e-bay. I registered years ago before they required credit cards. But I never followed through with it. I contacted them a few months ago, and they reinstated my membership. But you can't bid or sell without a credit card registered??? So I can browse, I can chat, I can e-mail. They just don't want my business.
Plus everytime I try to do anything on e-bay I get problems. Site is down, traffic jam, try back later. I'm not impressed so far. I can scroll through pages of auctions and not see a bid. Same with seller searches.
I've looked over the verification process and it just seems to much for me. I'm in the process of using a cc just to get registered at these sites, but my heart remains at BidBay.
Thanks for all your help. I appreciate you taking the time to look at my stuff and give me feedback and information.
Tami

I have deleted your post because it contained links and URLs to competitive sites. Discussion in a non-promotional manner of sites and services in competition with AuctionWatch is permitted under the Community Guidelines, links and URLs are not.

I hope this helps explain the deletion of your post.

The contests are bad enough~~awarding users to list a bunch of junk in order to boost front page numbers. This helps no one but Bidbay it hurts every single seller and buyer there. This latest reward offer for an AW user's private information has made my mind up. I do not agree with Bidbay's motives or tactics. Have had too many unsolicited emails tonight from other Bidbayers who feel exactly the same. I do believe that Mr. CEO would be surprised at who some of those folks are that are getting ready to move on to a real auction site. Sorry Mr. CEO~~a $1 million or $1 reward could not get me to divulge any confidential information I am privy to. Nor will a Sony Camera get me to list 10,000 avon samples. This gal is not for sale! I'll happily pay to list elsewhere, as I do for a very nice profit. I haven't made as much in seven months on Bidbay as I did in one week somewhere else this month. I don't need any special rewards to list elsewhere because the bidders are there. BB bucks do not pay the bills~~cash does. I may not agree with all of ebay's policies but haven't noticed Meg posting a bounty for an AW poster on any of ebay's boards. People complain of ebay's tech problems~~everyday there is a new one on BidBay. Bottom line is I don't want to invest any more time and energy into a site (BidBay) that will be even more of a ghost town in a year.

MichelleG ,

No problem, I wasn't even thinking in those terms.

What I meant to say was....

mtnmama,

You had mentioned needing to learn HTML to spruce up your auctions, well that is not exactly necassary. There are a lot of free sites out there that have templates that you can work with. Some in as little as two minutes per item. Just some FYI for ya!

MichelleG,

Better?

It wasn't I who wanted to learn html to spruce up auctions, it was momoalltrades. I know html pretty well, having used it for more than 5 years now. I also use templates.

Momoalltrades

It's not that ebay doesn't want your business, they require some sort of verification so they can cut down on fraud and the all famous shilling that goes on elsewhere. It also cuts down on deadbeat sellers and bidders. If a bidder knows you had to be verified, chances are they won't back out on your auctions, like they do elsewhere. Personally, I'd rather pay and be verified than deal with lowlifes. If you don't agree with a site's policies, then certainly you should move on.

Mom
You can bid without a credit card, just not on adult items.

I get bids there, that site floated me until I got a job last year. It fed my family, paid my car payment and electric bill. The small amount of fees I pay is nothing compared to the money I received.

I've not listed in a while, but I plan to list tonight for an eBay event.

As I said, you're free to move on, but I think you should keep your options open.

Crafts do very well there, especially homemade items.

Mama,
Can I list at e-bay without the credit card? It hasn't worked yet.
Ok, so let's say I get over that hurdle. How does e-bay do so well with handmade crafts when it doens't even have a category for it? Where would I put my items. I looked around last night to see what they had, how well they did, etc...
I did a search under crafts and found a lot of pages... very few bids, and every time I went to open an auction. It was busy and page couldn't load.
I'm not trying to shut anyone out, but everytime I go over there I leave feeling disgusted and confused. oh well...

Dutchbid,
Thanks for the non links that you didn't post for me. They will be really useful, even though I never saw them.

Kittie~~you are too funny!! I hope this thread will provide a full scope of information both positive and negative regarding Bidbay. The positive: I have made many new friends at Bidbay that I would not have otherwise met. They have added tons of new features to make life easier for sellers and buyers. The negative: Lots of "tech" problems, kinda like a beta release of an auction site. I would suggest anyone who values privacy not to utilize the chatboards. Last night a member posted my first AND **LAST** name on a thread without my permission. That information was allowed to stand on the site for several hours. To make matters worse the person was not even NARU'D from the site or chat! I also found some very interesting reading material that clearly shows to me the ethics of TPTB at Bidbay:

http://sites.state.pa.us/PA_Exec/Securities/actions/bidbay.html

These are just my opinions of the site. There are others who love everything about it.

she was not only NOT NARU'd, she was given $1000.00. There is so much partiality on that site it is unbelievable! When everyone started making fun of the CEO for offering a bounty on me, he took it off. The YOKE was on him.

SEABHS, just a question?

Browsing around places I noticed that you have a hotmail address that's using the same name as someone who posted here last year in Golds threads and was NARU'D the other night in a BidBay thread.
"Whocares" is the name. What gives? You two brothers or is this a smokescreen by you to get the attention on someone else & off yourself?

Enuad, why all of the detective work, eh? Everybody loves the quasi-anonymity of the net, so just relax and play the game. For all we know, you could be that BidBay CEO George guy, and I could be an SEC cop

SEABHS~~the bounty on you that was actually offered by a **CEO** of a glorifed chatroom that awards points to trade with is laughable and sophmoric. As a person who was a seller and buyer at that site, I apologize to you. It should truly be an embarrassment to that entire community. In the past the same CEO has also put Bounties on the heads of an Auction Watch author amongst a few other's. It does not in the least reflect the professionalism or unique insight to an industry I would expect of a **CEO** that claims to be getting close to toppling ebay. I think it will take guidance by a very astute, mature and educated leader for any site to ever gain much ground on ebay. Im my opinion, as in my other opinions stated here, I don't see a site that has a leader capable of taking on ebay. It is a shame, because Bidbay could have been a very promising alternative and site for secondary use.

Don't worry about a rebuttal Linda, they wouldn't be able to comprehend what I just said anyway!

Interesting fact, denephew. I knew from the gross misspelling of the word "patience" which she spells "PATIENTS" always that it was her.

She and I had a huge run-in early on. She called me names, libeled me, etc on the chats. I sent her the laws governing chats, etc. and she went nuts trying to figure out who sent it. She sent it to George, who knew it was me, because I also sent him a copy. Her next thread was "Never mind George, I found out who the jerk.." Nice way to start a thread, huh? More insults to add to the libel suit. I haven't forgotten that incident and I'm sure she hasn't either.

Now that my suspicion is confirmed, I will definitely save all those posts she wrote about and to me.

I guess the trip to Atlanta really paid off for her and others. Notice how nasty some of them have become since that trip? A little bit of this and that sure did rub off on them.

Mom,

If you get yourself verified, you can list without a credit card. That's the key to listing without one. Verification is a must.

Sorry you didn't see many bids in the craft section. There are artists offerings that lists just those things. That's where I list mine when I have them. Also just because pages take a long time to load may be your own computer. Try clearing the cache. I went to your auctions and those with pictures took forever to load for me. Your pictures are way too big, byte size.

Take care and again, good luck. I'm happy with ebay most of the time and that will never change. I know which side of the bread my butter is on
