... He sure reads a mean teleprompter!

If I were the paranoid sort, I'd think that he orchestrated the attack himself just so he could make himself look presidential after a year of being called an idiot by the Press.

It was a great speech. We have a long road ahead of us...

He said it all very nicely, but didn't say anything new. When will he do something?

At least he didn't have that stupid smirk on his face like Clinton always had (and still does).....

Well, he did offer a bunch of strongly worded ultimatums. Basically "turn over any and all terrorists or you will be treated as a hostile nation".

Sounds great in the short run, but I fear that it will come to be perceived as simply an excuse for the US to extend its influence, which will in turn engender further resentment toward us.

Knee jerk reactions won't accomplish anything. This needs to be well thought out and well planned. That takes time. And you don't move masses of military with the snap of a finger.

There would be much more criticism if Bush (or any leader for that matter) reacted with an itchy trigger finger and not enough forethought.

And why did Hilary look so bored? It was weird.

Damn meya,

LOL.....I was thinking the same thing about ole Hilary. Suppose she was mad cause Billy boy wasn't up there basking in all the glory?

I think Bush was great!

I also think he is prepared to kick butt, if we don't get our way.

Either your with us or your for terrorism!!!!!!!

Meya, I was wondering the same thing about Hilary...she didn't even look like she was paying attention. All I can say is WOW, that was a mighty fine speech. And I know if the members of the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg were watching they were all saying "HOO-AH"!

I thought one ultimatum in particular would make sleep difficult for some in Afghanistan.

"They will hand over the terrorists or they will share in their fate"

Have to say he is not a great orator yet but he has come a long long way from a couple months ago.

Wonderful speech, Hilary didn't look like she cared much about it, or anything for that matter.

Better than most of his speeches but nothing new. I admired his ability to lose some of the heavy accent.

I just kept thinking of how great it was that Bush was President now instead of Clinton. Clinton lost the respect of the nation and the world with his escapades. At least our new President is treated with the respect the office deserves.

A fine speach, but I didn't expect anything else. However, I can assure you that Al Gore would have done as well. The office brings the finest from the holder in times of trouble. It has always been so, and with God's help, it will always be so.

You are with us, or you are with the Terrorist! Excellent phrasing. We will not tire, falter or fail! (we are in it for the long haul, this isn't gonna happen overnight) We will bring justice to the terrorists, or the terrorists to justice, justice will prevail.

The congress is unified, the message was we are not against Muslims we are against those who blaspheme Alla, the terrorists. Well said. Thank you Mr. President and all of our leaders.

As The Official President Bush cheerleader of this forum (appointed by KRS - so I know it's offical) I have to say he did a super job! I'm digging through the attic right now for my pom poms.

I'm 99% sure that Hillary was just exhausted tonight. At first I thought she looked bored but when you think about the hours she must be putting in right now... plus having to worry about what Bill's up to.

O.K. I take that last part back.

I hope he paid his ghost-writers A LOT to make him come out as if he were literate...AND HARDLY ANY ACCENT, as dear Antiquary pointed out... How did they pull that one????

A lot better than when he went to New York and reported: "I stand here today with bended knees..."

Nothing new in the speach. Thanks to Powell, bush is not rushing head-on into this disaster! So many countries, so many heads of other cabinets have tried to tell him the same: TAKE IT SLOW! PLAN...

Victory will be in good planning, not in showing your trump card at the first whistle....

And when I said, a week ago,(I am sure someone will bring up the thread ) that action should be swift, I meant it....BUT ONLY ACT AFTER GOOD, INTELLIGENT PLANNING....

Edited to add another 2 cents...

I must say this to the man I so love to despise...

Bravo Mr. President, Bravo.

BTW: Hillary and Guilliane BOTH looked like they haven't slept in 10 days, and probably haven't.

The trip to Washington tonight didn't help them any either.

Can't we leave the Clinton bashing out of just ONE thread... this isn't about politics.

OK..you guys can bash me now. I can take it. Really, I can...Im prepared. I can take it. Yes. I can. Sure. Go ahead. Im ready.

I say "On bended knees" too. So why is that phrase so bad? It sounds dumb with "On bent knees". Or am I missing something?

Ok..let me have it. Im ready. Really. Im tough. Sure I am.

I dunno, I didn't catch that either. I figured as long as he didn't say, "here we squat... " it sounded fine.

I particularly liked Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf's comments on GW's speech tonight. "He didn't draw a line in the sand, he bulldozed a ditch!"

Epitome of a non speech. He said nothing new, but he coined "pro temporary".

He sounded like a recipient of an Oscar nomination thanking everyone except the his dog Spot.

What is a bended knee? I would expect an educated man to at least use english words.
Standing with bended knees gives me the image of a sumo wrestler. The man saying those words, however...does not.

If you aren't with us you are with the terrorists!
We do not blame the Muslims but those who blaspheme Alla, the terrorists

He made two goofs protemporary and an elide at one point. He also came across as determined in his resolve. And you know I never once doubted that what he was reading he really meant. I trust him and his cabinet
and I feel that great pains were taken to cover all the major points that were on the minds of Americans.
