I happened to click on it, and saw this old guy singing, said to myself, "who is this old fart singing a Tom Petty song?" Took me awhile to realize it WAS Tom Petty! When did he get so old? Got up and looked in the bathroom mirror, and wondered, when did I get so old?

Agree or disagree, love 'em or hate 'em, they raised millions of dollars for the cause. The bottom line sort of mitigates any self-interested reasons the celebrities may or may not have had for doing the show. The needs of the many and all that.

I appreciate that it was done tastefully, and not like the Grammys or the People's Choice awards.

spaz-done tastefully? My Mom is still alive and kicking at 80+. Who would she identify with? Where were the great jazz musicians from the 40's, 50's and 60's?

This was a planned spam for baby boomers.

Anyone over 50 need not watch.

edited to add- Tom Petty may be old--but still rocks! He and I compare gray hair and age lines about numerous parts of our bodies--I ain't telling which ones!

You're right, jeanyu. The telethon was an outrage. How dare they.

Neil has been touring with Perl Jam off and on for a long time now. They'll be playing together again at the Bridge School benefit next month at Shoreline.

"Where were the great jazz musicians from the 40's, 50's and 60's?"

You might want to ask THEM, as this was a "VOLUNTEER" effort, and all those that appeared, CALLED IN TO DO SO THEMSELVES!

They were not called, NOR solicited.

They also said that they had enough performers to do a 10 hour show, so they took them on a first to volunteer basis.

Apparently, your moms 40s, 50s, and 60s heros were too slow to volunteer, or did not do so at all. OR, maybe they are just dead?

The scoundrals...

Amazing to me but I think that Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam sounds a lot LIKE BRUCE ~ first time I heard him on the radio, I thought it was BRUCE and I am a huge Bruce fan!!
I must say that I was dissappointed in the show. I understand that they volunteered their time and all (I also donated more money) but I guess I was expecting Bruce to sing more ~ I mean all of those great tunes he has done that have so much meaning and would have been perfect to get people to call.
For the last 2 weekends in my listening area New Jersey 101.5 has been playing non stop oldies tunes that were great for what we have been going thru & will to come.
Last night ~People were calling in requesting this tune and that for fallen firefighters and loved ones that are missing ~ so sad
Knowing Bruce, he will put on a benefit concert or something and hopefully with Bon Jovi since they are both from NJ!!

Some number just in..

Updated: Mon, Sep 24 3:10 AM EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A two-hour television extravaganza that brought together some of the biggest names in entertainment to raise money for victims of the Sept. 11 air attacks attracted 59 million viewers, media tracking firm Nielsen Media Research said. That number for 'America: A Tribute to Heroes,' broadcast Friday night, was more than the 42.9 million viewers for this year's Academy Awards, but well below the 84.2 million for this year's Super Bowl.

Hard to believe football is still number 1

I am still trying to get over the fact that I missed Neil Young.

Crosby, Stills, and Nash played on Leno the other night. I was curious why they didn't get Young to play with them. He performed on SNL last season, and even my kids thought he was "awesome".

I love Neil Young. If you don't have his Silver and Gold cd, you should.
